Hey UCSD Circle K, I hope your studying is going well, and that you guys are not killing yourself with stress! That being said, please take some time to read Viet's newsletter as a quick study break, and let your mind take time to rest up and reorganize yourself as your relax! I wanted to give you all a quick update on what the Paradise Division is up to. As of June 2nd, we gave birth to a new young project called Weekend in Paradise (WIP) which is a WORK IN PROGESS (WIP). Puns aside, it's the start of a project that is aimed at not only improving the presence of the Paradise Division at the club levels for school, but to also increase the amount of participation we have in Paradise events, to rep some Toucan Spirit, as well as get to know Circle K members from other schools. Weekends in Paradise try to couple a service project, a social, a fundraiser, and a Divisional Council Meeting (DCM) together. It's like coupled reactions in Chemistry! The chemistry is more likely to happen when they're all together! That being said, the June DCM was on June 3th, where schools from the division gave updates to the rest of the division. Also, we will be opening up design submissions for Divisional TShirts. These are due by August 4th, and will be distributed to clubs all over the Paradise Division. They are going to be printed on a light blue T-shirt, and represent the Toucan Spirit! If youre interested in designing, talk to me or email me at [email protected]. Be on the lookout for some fun summertime activities as well. This August is the District Summer Service Social (DSSS) which will be located in Santa Clara in Northern California. This is a district event (So yes, schools from all over California-Nevada-Hawaii will be in attendance) that is paired with the Kiwanis District Convention, as well as the District Key to College. This event is a good opportunity to have some summertime service and social fun, getting to know more people from within the Circle K network. I hope that was informative, and that you all enjoy the rest of newsletter. Additionally, good luck on finals and have an amazing summer vacation! AZHAR DEEN, Paradise Lieutenant Governor

Junior Olympics We woke up bright and early on the morning of May 20 for one purpose: to volunteer. That day, we would be helping our Kiwanians at their annual event for elementary school students, Junior Olympics. I have never seen so many kids in one place! Once we got to the La Jolla High School field, we were sent to do different things, like registration, helping out with food, and setting up the different events. I was assigned to the standing/ broad jump, but the other events included the obstacle course, softball throw, and various track events. For my event, the smallest kids stood at the edge of the sand pit and jumped, while all the rest ran from a distance and jumped from a line of tape. We helped measure, record the times, rake the sand, and when each heat was finished, we took the top three children and brought them up to the front to stand on the winners podium to get their medals! Of course, in Junior Olympics, everybody is a winner, so each child got a participation ribbon. After all the events were completed, the volunteers had some fun going through the obstacle course. Best of all, there was a lot of free ice cream and chili hot dogs to go around. NOM. If you didnt get to come out this time, you definitely missed out. Dont worry, theres always next year!

Grocery Distribution for Military Families On Memorial Day, UCSD Circle K set out to help military families by providing them with groceries. We went to a local church and volunteered alongside other UCSD students and community members. To prepare for the event, we separated the food and placed them into different categories. Separating the bread was most fun since we all got excited when we found mold. Once the event began, we went to our stations. I provided families with carrots and potatoes, while other members like Candace and Precious gave them desserts and vegetables. As families came through, they had volunteers with them to help push their kart. As they went through, they stopped by different stations, and received enough food to provide meals for an entire week. The smiles on their faces were priceless. They were overjoyed once they saw all they were about to receive: three bags worth of fruits and vegetables, two loaves of bread, a quart of juice, and so much more. We were able to help so many families that day, that some of the stations ran out of food. Once the last family went through, we put away all the food that was left and helped clean up. We rearranged all the tables and did some work that helped prepare for the event they had the next day. Before we left, we gave thanks to god for providing families with what they need. Picnic at the beach was my last big social for Spring quarter, and it was a wonderful experience. Due to the sudden power outage that lasted for 13.5 hours, the social was unofficially extended as well. Picnic at the beach started off on a high note when OceanView Terrace decided to started passing out free food because of the blackout. Walking over to SunGod Lawn with copious amounts of fruit, hot dogs, and breakfast burritos, I knew that everyone would be very well fed. We decided to go to La Jolla Coves because not many people had gone there before. Upon arrival, we strolled along the streets of downtown La Jolla until we arrived at the beach. Laying out our blankets, we stayed at the beach for roughly four hours, enjoying the sun and the sea. We swam with the seals, explored the caves, and had a great time. After the beach, we grabbed a quick bite at Chipotle and headed over to David Meis apartment for a fun night in. After playing an intense game of Apples to Apples, we settled down to watch The Immortals. The movie was cliched but action packed, but everyone enjoyed it. After the movie, we knocked out on the living room floor before returning to school in the morning. [VIVIAN LI]
