First Reading: Acts 10:44-48 44While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. 45The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, 46for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, 47Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? 48So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days. Hear the word of the Lord: Thanks be to God Psalm 98 (said antiphonally) O sing to the Lord a new song: for he has done marvellous things. 2 His right hand and his holy arm: They have got him the victory. 3 The Lord has made known his salvation: he has revealed his just deliverance in the sight of the nations. 4 He has remembered his mercy and faithfulness towards the house of Israel: And all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. 5 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth: break into singing and make melody. 6 Make melody to the Lord upon the harp: Upon the harp and with sounds of praise. 7 With trumpets and with horns: Cry out in triumph before the Lord, the king. 8 Let the sea roar, and all that fills it: the good earth and those who live upon it. 9 Let the rivers clap their hands: And let the mountains ring out together before the Lord 10 For he comes to judge the earth: He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

5 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God,
and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. 2By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, 4for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. 5Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. 7There are three that testify: 8the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree. 9If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. 10Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. 11And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. Hear the word of the Lord: Thanks be to God The Gospel: John 16:16-24 The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John chapter sixteen beginning at the sixteenth verse. Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ 16A little while, and you will no longer see me, and again a little while, and you will see me. 17Then some of his disciples said to one another, What does he mean by saying to us, A little while, and you will no longer see me, and again a little while, and you will see me; and Because I am going to the Father? 18They said, What does he mean by this a little while? We do not know what he is talking about. 19Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, Are you discussing among yourselves what I meant when I said, A little while, and you will no longer see me, and again a little while, and you will see me? 20Very truly, I tell you, you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will have pain, but your pain will turn into joy. 21When a woman is in labour, she
has pain, because her hour has come. But when her child is born, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy of having brought a human being into the world. 22So you have pain now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23On that day you will ask nothing of me. Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete. For the Gospel of the Lord: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Christ Church Rosters: Our current rosters run out at the end of this month, and this is a wonderful time to renew our commitment to assist in the worship and the life of our church. The rosters are many and varied and can suit all types of people - Readers, Cleaners (vacuuming and dusting), Welcomers/Sidespeople and Morning Tea helpers. The numbers on our rosters are sadly getting depleted as people move away or wish to step down due to age or infirmity. So lets have a real recruiting drive! What better way to make people welcome than to greet them with a smile as they enter the church as you give out books, and to encourage and inviting them to stay with a great cuppa at the end of the service. Our hospitality is an integral part of who we are and very often this is the reason why newcomers come back (as well as the good sermons of course!) when they feel so welcome. Our other rosters are equally important - the way we look after our church. Without a doubt Christ Church would have to be one of the harder churches to look clean at all times so it is essential that we have many enthusiastic people to help dust and vacuum each week. If you are unable to make a rostered commitment then please arrange a replacement. And finally, our Reading Roster - what a great ministry to read the Word of the Lord. So people how can YOU help?? If you aren't on any rosters at present, please consider one or more of the above ministries and assist those already helping. The more people we have on the rosters the lighter the load. Direct Debit Offerings: Parish Account details: CBA Account Name Kilmore Anglican Parish. BSB 06 3698. Account Number 1018 4649.
Op-Shop Volunteers: The parish op-shop needs to build its roster of shop attendants. Our current volunteers need some back up. Please consider this ministry. Contact Mary Saunders or Dianne Dixon for details. Sunday Sessions: A great time of worship and fellowship was had last Sunday at our inaugural Sunday Sessions Kids Church. Fifteen children and eighteen adults enjoyed a wonderful time as Kasey led us in activities and prayer, followed by a BBQ tea. It was very encouraging to see people from each of our four centres enjoying the evening. The next Sunday Session will be on the fourth Sunday of the month - 28th May at 5.00pm. Saints Days this week: Monday 14th Matthias, apostle & martyr; Thursday 17th Ascension Day; Saturday 19th Dunstan, archbishop of Canterbury (d. 988). Pew Reflections for 6th Sunday of Easter: Loved, chosen and listened to. What a way to describe a relationship, especially a relationship with Jesus and his Father. We are loved, loved by God the Father who has gifted us with life, loved by Jesus, Gods own Son who gave his life for us. We have been chosen and gifted with faith to believe, hope with which to trust and love whereby we can dare to respond to the great love of God. Being caught up in the life and love of God we can also dare to pray because we know both how to pray and what we ought to be praying for. In other words, true prayer of petition flows from the intimacy of our life with God, also known as contemplative prayer. Out of our deep and intimate relationship with God our prayers will generally be in harmony with Gods plans and purposes for his people and his world. Let us pray today for all in monastic life, in meditation groups and for spiritual directors. Give thanks for those who show the love of God to others.
