Initial Ideas & Moodboards: by Charlotte Bennett, A2 Media

The document outlines initial ideas for a music video, including using illustrative clips to relate to the song lyrics, splitting the video into narrative and performance sections, including close-ups of the singer and a small dance routine. Locations would be rural with natural lighting. The ideas were then ordered and simplified to choose from, focusing on a mix of performance shots and narrative clips in nature showing children playing in the background. Moodboards would be created relating to the ideas to get audience feedback to help design the final video.

Initial Ideas & Moodboards

By Charlotte Bennett, A2 Media

This list is of the first ideas that I came up with after my research, having watched multiple different music videos and seen types of narrative & performance scenes. Not all of these will be used!

A list of Ideas

Illustrative video, showing clips that link to the lyrics and song meaning. Split the song into 2 or 3 parts narrative, performance, and possibly other. The narrative parts will take up the majority of the video, showing clips about the subjects mentioned in the lyrics (flowers, animals, etc.). Therell definitely be a performance aspect to the video, with parts showing close-ups of the actor singing the lyrics. A small dance routine by singer and a couple of other actors possibly with the lead singing as well. A small section of animation, hand drawn/digitally coloured. Focusing on the singer rather than the instruments/overall performance. Mostly rural locations as Im using a country song. Natural lighting. Use the focus to make bokeh/sharp/blurred effects. Editing the colour; black and white, pale and de-saturated or oversaturated, or colour tint.

The previous list has now been ordered and simplified to make a series of full ideas that I shall choose between, with my audiences help, to use as the final product idea.

Initial Ideas

Mainly performance, with the singer being shown (possibly with their band) singing in different locations. In the background of the shots would be children/teenagers playing and messing about, exploring nature etc, to add a narrative aspect. A dance routine may be included. The narrative parts will take up the majority of the video, showing clips about the subjects mentioned in the lyrics (flowers, animals, etc.). In between the clips will be the singer (and possibly the band) performing in a similar location outside in the nature. A mixture of clips showing the lead singer singing to the lyrics/playing the instrument, and clips of memories showing the singer and other actors exploring nature etc. A small section of animation, hand drawn/digitally coloured would be included.

Moodboards
I am going to make some moodboards that relate to things on my initial ideas list. I will then ask people of my target age group for their opinions, as the visual imagery with help them see the design and choose, which will enable me to design my music video to a standard and theme that my audience will enjoy. Storyboards included here will be the developed ideas that were shown previously:
- Mainly performance, narrative being shown in the background. Some dance routine. - Clips relating solely to the things mentioned in the lyrics, and clips of the band performing. - Singer performing, singer and other actors in narrative, and some animation.
