1. Operating System
OS of computer must be considered when assistive technology to be used to operate the computer. Selection of Proper OS for multimedia project based on many factors: Size of Project, Budget Allocated.. OS of computer performs basic tasks ( Recog. Info from the input device and sending info to the output device & allocate resource to the information). Common OS are : Windows XP, 2000, Linux, MAC OS. Which OS is easier to develop Multimedia Project ?
2. SCSI
Small Computer System Interface is a set of standards for physically connecting and transferring data between computers and peripheral devices. SCSI standards define commands, protocols, and electrical and optical interfaces. SCSI is most commonly used for hard disks and tape drives SCSI is an intelligent, peripheral, buffered, peer to peer interface. It hides the complexity of physical format. Every device attaches to the SCSI bus in a similar manner. Up to 8 or 16 devices can be attached to a single bus. There can be any number of hosts and peripheral devices but there should be at least one host.
SCSI uses handshake signals between devices, SCSI-1, SCSI-2 have the option of parity error checking. The SCSI protocol defines communication from host to host, host to a peripheral device, peripheral device to a peripheral device.
The existing SCSI standards are :Type SCSI-1 SCSI-2 Fast SCSI-2 Wide SCSI-2 Max. Cable Length(M) 6 6 3 3 Max. Speed Mbps 5 5-10 10-20 20 Max. no. of Devices 8 8 or 16 8 16
By carrying SCSI commands over IP networks, iSCSI is used to facilitate data transfers over intranets and to manage storage over long distances. iSCSI can be used to transmit data over local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), or the Internet and can enable location-independent data storage and retrieval. It is a storage area network (SAN) protocol, allowing organizations to consolidate storage into data center storage arrays while providing hosts (such as database and web servers) with the illusion of locally-attached disks.
Integrated Drive Electronics or IBM Disc Electronics, IDE is more commonly known as ATA or Parallel ATA (PATA) and is a standard interface for IBM compatible hard drives. IDE is different from the Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) because its controllers are on each drive, meaning the drive can connect directly to the motherboard or controller. IDE and its updated successor, Enhanced IDE (EIDE), are the most common drive interfaces found in IBM compatible computers today. Below, is a picture of the IDE connector on the back of a hard drive, a picture of what an IDE cable looks like, and the IDE channels it connects to on the motherboard.
MCI receives Command Strings effectively turn them into device responses. MCI program has the ability to play and record on any multimedia device.
Multimedia Softwares
Text Editing Tools Presentation Tool Painting and Drawing Tools Draw basic shapes using Firework Image Editing Tool Plug ins Sound Editing Tool Video Editing Tool
Used to write Letter, invoices, user manual. Example : MsWord Open existing file , Create New File, Find or Replace Text, Insert Page Number, Format the Font, Check Spelling, Making Tables etc..
2. Presentation Tools
Used to communicate more efficiently. Video Conferencing, E-mail, database provides better way to communicate complicated message. Benefit : Flexibility, Easy to change, modify. Tools are: Microsoft PowerPoint, Corel Presentation, Macromedia Director, Adobe Acrobat.
Most important for mm project. Softwares are : Photoshop, Director, Coreldraw. Tools include: drawing tools, paint tools, brush tools, shading tools etc..
Image is spatial representation of an object. Tools are required to restore the existing images, to create an image from scratch as well as image from scanners, digital cameras. To edit image we use : Image Menu Commands, Transform Toolbar, Editing Tools, Multiple Window, Open Image, Multiple Type, Style, Size and Texts, Color Fill Adjustments, Geomatric Transform.
5. Animation Tools
An animation is to show the still image at a certain rate to give it visual effect. Visual Effect must be time varying position, shape color, structure, orientation and focus. Types of Animation : Computer Animation, Kinematics Animation, 2D, 3D Animation.
