Changing States of Matter

Water on earth moves in a continuous cycle. This is called THE WATER CYCLE. Evaporation is where water goes after it forms puddles on the pavement. Explain how a thermometer works.

CHANGING States of Matter

SOLID- LIQUID-GAS

In this Science experiment,

we wanted to see which container contained the most liquid. We used different colors to jazz up the experiment. The children were surprised to learn that each container held exactly the same volume of liquid.

Changing States of Matter

Heating a liquid can turn it into a gas. Cooling a gas can turn it into a liquid.

Condensation is the change from gas to liquid.

WATER CYCLE A Play & LearnGAME

Water on earth moves in a continuous cycle. This is called THE WATER CYCLE. There is about the same amount of water on earth now that there was when the dinosaurs roamed our planet.

EVAPORATION
Where does the water go after it forms puddles on the pavement?

What are clouds? How are clouds made?

Condensation is the change of water from its gaseous (water vapor) to liquid water. It generally occurs in the atmosphere when warm air rises, cools and cannot hold water vapor. As a result, excess water vapor condenses to form cloud droplets.

PRECIPITATION
Rain develops when growing cloud droplets become too heavy to remain in the cloud and as a result, fall toward the surface as rain. Rain can also begin as ice crystals that collect each other to form large snowflakes.

When rain or snow falls onto the earth, it just doesn't sit there -- it starts moving generally at a downward angle ( laws of gravity). Runoff is extremely important action of erosion. in that not only does it keep rivers and lakes full of water, but it also changes the landscape.

Describe Surface runoff

Describe Ground water:

Ground water is the part of precipitation that seeps downward through the soil and slowly moves underground. It is stored in the spaces between rock particles and may eventually seep into streams, lakes, and oceans.

Explain how a thermometer works.

A thermometer is a device that measures the temperature of things. The name is made up of two smaller words: "Thermo" means heat and "meter" means to measure. You can use a thermometer to tell the temperature outside or inside your house, inside your oven, even the temperature of your body if you're sick.
