This document discusses Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. It defines SCADA as a system that collects data from sensors at remote locations and sends this data to a central computer for management and control. The key elements of a SCADA system are described as sensors and actuators, RTUs/PLCs, communication methods, and the MTU including front end processors, servers, and HMI software. Four levels of SCADA systems are outlined from the enterprise level to the field level. Main applications are also listed in industries such as water, power, oil and gas. Advantages include increased efficiency, minimized fault response times, and maximized profitability and safety.

Supervisory control & Data Acquisition (SCADA)

Introduction Elements of SCADA Levels of Automation Applications Advantages

SCADA refers to a system that collects data from various sensors at a factory, plant or in other remote locations and then sends this data to a central computer which then manages and controls the data.

SCADA focuses on gathering real time data and circulating the right amount of system information to the right person or computer within the right amount of time.
