Augmented Reality

Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that combines real-world and digital data by overlaying images or data on top of the real world. AR can be applied to sight as well as other senses like audio, haptic, olfactory, and gustatory senses. There are different types of AR based on the concept of evolution including marker-based AR and location-based AR. AR has applications in various fields such as offices, industry/military, print media, entertainment, and medicine. However, there are also technological, application, and user experience challenges to the development and adoption of AR.

What is it ? It is a field of computer science, which combines Real world & Digital data
A process of combining video or photographic displays by overlaying with images with useful Computer generated data.

An emerging technology (as per the hype cycle for 2013)

RV CONTINUUM

Proposed by Milligram and Kishino. AR is applicable not only to sight, but also to all the senses.
