STUDY SKILLS

Many children at all grades level experience frustration & failure in school. It is due to inadequate study skills. Good study habits are important for success in school. Study skills fosters feeling of competence ,develop positive attitude,helps children & lays the ground work for successful work habits as an adult.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

What you eat can affect your mood,memory,clarity of thought. Food that are slow to digest, divert blood from brain & reduce mental sharpness. Key nutrient ,choline a neurotransmitter ,acetylcholine has major role in memory. Found in fish,meat,egg yolk, Soya product,oat meal,rice,peanuts.

STUDY ENVOIRNMENT

Time of day:schedule time when you are alert/productive. Grouping :form study group to prepare for exam/test ,alone/small/large group. Posture /mobility:formal posture/informal/moving about/long period of time/frequent breaks. Sound :quite /study to music. Lighting :it does make a difference.See your learning preferences. Temperature : see the preferences for cool/warm environment.

STUDIES

No two people study the same way, what works for one may not work for another. Every one is different ,studying & being motivated to learn which comes naturally. Your success depend on your ability to study effectively ,efficiently. Time is precious & not to be squandered ,no matter what you believe right now. ITS YOUR LIFE,YOUR TIME & YOUR FUTURE

EFFECTIVE STUDY SKILLS


Study skills should be practiced for you to improve. Its not enough to think about studying,you have actually to do it. Study skills foster feeling of competence and develop positive attitudes. Teachers &parents should promote good study skills.

Practice does not make perfect ,perfect practice makes perfect

STUDY HABITS

Begin study no less than 30-90 minutes after meal. Never study in 30 minutes of going to sleep. Prioritize !!make a list of what you intend to study. If possible ,study no more than 30 to 40 minutes at a stretch,take a break after study. In break time ,think about other things. In class room to avoid distraction sit in front row.

STRESS OF EXAMINATION

TIPS FOR REVISION PERIOD


Leave plenty of time to revise, no last minute cramming. It helps to boost your confidence & reduces stress. Develop time table,you can track & monitor your progress. Make sure you allow time for fun &relaxation,to avoid burning out. If loosing concentration ,take break.

Take revision as fun & motivation. Eat healthy & regular diet ;your brain will benefit from nutrients. Regular moderate exercise to boost your energy. Try out some yoga ,it improves your concentration level & you sleep better.

STEPS OF REDUCING STRESS


Before going to examination hall. Avoid : indigestible food,excessive liquids,stimulants like coca,tea,coffee,late dinner,discussion about previous paper. Plan: relaxation for the next morning,short walk, music,or jogging . Attempt: no new revision Eat:light & nutritive food.

Before you leave home ensure you have all stationary . Get in to examination hall 30 minutes before. Even if not needed ,go to fresh room before each exam. Pray ,stay calm & remain focused. Listen to invigilator carefully. Remain positive.

Outside the examination hall. Minimum waiting time ,know exact hall&seat. Walk straight to examination hall. Avoid anxiety provoking discussions. Practice :I am going to do well,I am prepared for exams,I have come to pass exams.

In the examination hall. Settle & compose your self. Lay out your equipments, pen, pencil , compass. Dont hurry to read the paper, check carefully,underline the key words,select questions you know best. Plan your time,divide it & keep10 minutes for revision.
