An average transaction involves the sale of approximately 1.7 tickets, the ticketing process can satisfy an input of 4500 customers per hour .
This UCI (United Cinemas International) cinema has been open since 1989 and has eight screens. The cinema incorporates many state-of-the-art features . There are two sets of giant TV screens in the entrance hall . In total the eight screens can seat 1840 people; the sizes (seating) of the screens vary. The film titles are selected for the cinema by Head Office, but local management has responsibility for the scheduling of the showings on each screen. There are up to four ticket desks . The overall transaction is 20 seconds; thus the maximum throughput is 12 sales per minute, or 720 per hour. The average number of ticket sales per transaction is 1.8, and the maximum seat sales per hour is 1300 There is specific seat positions. A central pre-booking facility is also offered. UCIs mission statement emphasizes the need to provide clean and tidy premises, cheerful staff, adequate food facilities and, above all, a high-quality film and sound presentation.

a) Find out the running times and classification of eight popular films.
Try to schedule these onto the UCI Solihull screens, taking account of what popularity you might expect at different times. You should allow at least 20 minutes for emptying and cleaning, 10 minutes for admitting the next audience, and 15 minutes for advertising, before the start of the film. b) Try to make an appointment to visit your local cinema to meet the manager. Compare the operations with those at Kinepolis and UCI, particularly in terms of scheduling.
