The objective is to design and fabricate a 0-12 volt, 1 ampere variable power supply for various domestic applications at low cost and high reliability. The main objective is to design a UPS is to supply continuous undisturbed and conditioned power to the critical load. The energy for powering the load comes from the utility, or from the battery upon mains outage.

ELECTRONICS DESIGN LABORATORY

An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), also uninterruptible power source, battery or flywheel backup, is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source, typically mains power fails. A Variable Power Supply is a device that supplies electric power to an electrical load and, allows the user to vary or change the DC output voltage within the specified voltage ranges which is the only difference compared to a Regulated Power Supply that spits out a constant output voltage.

ELECTRONICS DESIGN LABORATORY

Construct a regulated DC power supply to provide a low-ripple constant output voltage in the range 5V DC at 1 Amps (maximum) load current from a 230 V AC power outlet. The simplest and most common type of DC power supplies is a linear system.First a transformer is used to down convert the AC line voltage to a smaller peak voltage mV, which must be at least 2-3 Volts larger than the ultimately desired DC output. A diode circuit then rectifies the AC signal, producing waveform with large DC component. A capacitor filter bank is then used to smooth or filter the rectified sinusoid. Under normal loading conditions there is always some residual periodic variation or ripple in the filtered signal.

TRANSFORMER : Transformers are used to step up voltages if higher voltages are required or to step down voltages if lower voltages are required. The ideal transformer equation is given by:

RECTIFIER : The rectifier circuit is the heart of the power supply. Its function is to convert the incoming AC voltage to a DC voltage.

CAPACITOR : The smoothing capacitor converts the full-wave rippled output of the rectifier into a smooth DC output voltage

REGULATOR :

A voltage regulator is an electrical regulator designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level. A voltage regulator may be a simple "feed-forward" design or may include negative feedback control loops.

MULTIVIBRATOR : In electronics terms this means more than one vibrator. It creates an electrical signal that changes state on a regular basis (astable) or on demand (monostable). You may recall creating monostable and astable timers using the 555 timer

Thus the design and fabrication of 0-12 volt,1A variable power supply was designed and the output was verified successfully.

Thus the design and fabrication of domestic uninterrupted power supply was done and the desired output was obtained.
