Project Report

This document presents a study on the use of limestone powder and chalk powder as fillers in self-compacting concrete (SCC). Several SCC mixes were developed with varying replacements of cement with limestone powder and chalk powder. The mixes were tested for fresh properties such as slump flow and hardened properties such as compressive strength. The results showed that SCC mixes with 25% replacement of cement with limestone powder met the criteria for fresh properties of SCC and achieved higher compressive strengths compared to the control mix without fillers. Therefore, the use of fine limestone powder up to 25% replacement is recommended to produce satisfactory SCC.

INTRODUCTION

Self compacting concrete which is able to fill up the framework and cover reinforcing bars under gravity without any compaction.

There are two types of fillers mainly used in SCC. 1. Pozzolanic e.g.(Fly Ash, Silica fume , Blast Furnace slag etc.) 2. Non- Pozzolanic
etc.). e.g.(Limestone Powder , Chalk Powder and Dolomite Fines

EXPERIMENTAL WORK
Materials Used: The following materials were used for preparing the mixes. Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), 43 grade, conforming to IS: 8112-1989 Fly ash (FA), conforming to IS: 3812-1981 Locally available river sand as per IS: 383-1970 with a fineness modulus of 2.62. The coarse aggregates consisted of a combination of 10 mm and 16 mm maximum sizes in weight ratio of 1:3 respectively with the fineness modulus of the combined coarse aggregate being equal to 6.33.

TESTING OF CONCRETE MIXES

The flow related test of SCC mixes are as follows. T-500 test. V-funnel test. U- box test. J-ring test. V-funnel and GTM screen Segregation Test for stability of SCC mix.

CONCLUSION
The following conclusions can be drawn: 1. Making SCC by using limestone powder as a filler is possible. 2. The compressive strength of SCC mixes with limestone were average 46% higher at 7 days and 25% higher at 28 days than the control concrete hence can be adopted. 3. Hence use of the Fine lime stone powder is favorable in a percentage of 25%.
