Quick Facts Up to 24 million people in the US suffer from eating disorders. Only 1 in 10 people with an eating disorder receive treatment. Anorexia nervosa is one of most common psychiatric diagnoses in young women. Anorexia nervosa typically appears in early to mid- adolescence. Anorexia is the third most common chronic illness in adolescents. Entrance Criteria Diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa Age 13 to 18 Weight equal to or greater than 5 th percentile for age Minimal or no risk of harm to self/others Physician referral
Mission Statement The mission of Scranton Health and Wellness Promotion Center is to provide treatment to adolescents struggling with eating disorders and body image concerns through peer interactions, one-on-one sessions, and group meetings. The services are provided by a multi-disciplinary team in an outpatient setting designed for adolescents who are medically stable. The focus of treatment is on education, social support, self-esteem, confidence, and decreasing negative habits.

SWOT Analysis Strengths Offers both individual and group therapy Provides both a social and educational support/environment Involves off site activities to get participants out in the community Trained and high qualified staff members Weaknesses No transportation to and from clinic Starting with a narrow focus and entrance criteria Opportunities This will be the only clinic in the area specifically for the treatment of eating disorders (G-CMC has been referring eating disorder patients to the Scranton Counseling Center) There is the possibility of expansion for other eating disorder diagnoses besides Anorexia Nervosa once the business is established We are affiliated with a well known hospital (G-CMC) We are in an area that is surrounded by multiple high schools which is our target population Threats Hesitation from adolescent population to participate Other counseling groups exist such as the Scranton Counseling Center Program Evaluation Evaluation of Individual Clients Pre- and post- treatment body image self-assessment Each client must identify and implement two positive coping strategies. Family support will be rated . Percentiles will be used to determine if each client is at a healthy weight. Evaluation of Program Number of clients enrolled in the program should increase by 25% after the first year. Clients and parents/guardians satisfaction surveys Readmissions into the hospital within one year after being discharged from the program should be below 10%.
Marketing Plan The audience that we are aiming to attract to The Scranton Health and Wellness Promotion Center includes teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 years old. We will promote the clinic through radio advisement. The advertisement will give an overview of the highlights and goals of the program. Scranton Health and Wellness Promotion Center will design brochures that will provide an overview of the program. The brochures will be available at Geisinger-Community Medical Center (CMC) and local public schools in the area, and the brochures will be given to individual physicians in the area to hand out to their patients. Analysis of Outside Forces Since The Scranton Health and Wellness Promotion Center is affiliated with Geisinger-CMC, many of the clients who we attract may be people who have previously been treated as inpatients at Geisinger-CMC. Counselors at local public schools can refer students who they think may benefit from the program.
