Basic AC Motors

This document discusses AC motors and drives. It provides information on single phase AC motors, 3 phase AC motor stator connections, different types of AC motor rotor designs including synchronous, induction, and cage induction rotors. It explains how induction motor rotors generate torque through the interaction between the rotating magnetic field in the stator and currents induced in the rotor bars. The document also discusses the field weakening point of AC motors and how variable speed drives can control motor speed and torque characteristics to meet different load requirements.

In this Rolling application two
conditions exist

As the empty stand fills up

it slows down and more
torque is required to turn
the load
As the full stand empties
its diameter decreases
and it speeds up at the
same time its torque
requirements decreases.

Common Info 13 (29)

1.

the empty stand motor

needs high speed with low
torque

2.

The Full stand motor

needs high Torque at low
