Eric Berne described personality in three different ego states
Ego state is a consistent pattern of feeling and experience
directly related to a corresponding consistent pattern of
behavior
The three ego states are Parent, Adult, Child
The Parent: a set of feelings, attitudes and behavior patterns
which resemble those of the of the parental figure. Functions
of nurturing, regulating and sanctions.
The Adult: an autonomous set of feelings, attitudes and
behavior patterns which are adapted to the current reality.
Collecting and processing information in the present. It
responds to reality.
The Child: is a set of feelings, attitudes and behavior patterns
which are the relics of individuals own childhood. Natural
Creativity), Rebellious (Confrontation) & Adapted (Adaptation)
Ideally each ego state should equal of the total personality
20% or below would mean underdeveloped ego state
