Rudiments of Transmission Network

The document is a training presentation on transmission networks from Huawei Technologies. It covers the basics of SDH/MSTP, WDM, and microwave transmission networks. The key points are: 1. SDH/MSTP networks use synchronous digital hierarchy to multiplex and transport lower-speed services over long distances with powerful protection capabilities. 2. WDM networks multiplex different optical signals with specific wavelengths onto a single fiber to increase capacity. 3. Microwave networks provide transmission over short distances in a line-of-sight using licensed radio frequencies, making them suitable for small-capacity access networks requiring rapid deployment.

Whats MW for?

MW is a transmission system with the similar function as optical net

Differences of MW with Optical Transmission are:
1.Medium: No need of optical fibre but needs license for radio frequ
usage.
2.Capacity: Relatively small, usually max. of 1 2xSTM -1.
3.Transmission Distance: Line of Sight, up to several tens of Km,
influenced by climatic conditions.

Because of the aforementioned features, MW is mainly

used in the small capacity access layer transport
network. It brings rapid deployment and low TCO to the
customers.
Application Situation:
1.2G/3G/WiMax BS service backhaul.
2.Access layer network in less developed regions.
3.Private network.

Terrains are divided as follows:
A Mountains also cities with dense tall buildings
B Hills
C Plain
D Large water area

MW communication is most applicable in terrain A. Terrain B,C

and D follow respectively as a better environment for MW
communication.
