Before we

start
IC placed on the desk
throughout the test.

mode your mobile phone/tab.
If you need assistance, please
raise your hand. Please do not
call out.
No discussion during the test.

The test will take about 3 hours and


is split into the following
components:
Grammar & Vocabulary 25 minutes
Reading 35 minutes
Listening 55 minutes
Speaking 13 minutes
Writing 50 minutes

During the test your computer will be


locked.
You will not be able to use any other
applications such as spell check or cut
and paste.
The exams are timed, if you havent
finished in time Aptis will automatically
close.
Listening test you can listen to all the
recordings twice except for the final
question which can be played once.

Cannot amend your answers during the Listening and


Speaking components.
Can amend your answers for Grammar, Vocabulary
and Reading.
Can edit all your answers to Writing except question
3, which asks you to take part in imaginary internet
chat room, please ensure you click the post button.
You can take notes during task 4 of Speaking. Leave
any paper used for this task on the desk before you
leave the test room.

Keycodes
A Keycode is a unique code and
is used to begin the exam. You
can only enter one Keycode per
exam.
It will state:
1. Your name
2. A candidate reference number
3. Keycodes for todays exam

To launch Aptis,
please double
click on the
desktop icon
labeled
BRITISH_COUNCI
L SecureClient
Central
It can take a few
minutes for the
program to
open, please
wait until the
application is
open.

Speaking
Your responses are recorded.
No editing can be done once opened.
Please speak clearly.
Dont press the stop button!
Adjust microphone volume as per need.

Click on the
Video Tab
And click on
the movie

Click on the
Microphone
tab and test
the headset
microphone

Click on the
Play Button
to test the
headset

Once
tested,
please click
Close

If the volume on your computer is


too low or too high, please raise
your hand and we will assist you.
Do
not
disconnect
the
headphones during the test as
this will stop the test.

box

Downloading
keycodes as soon as you arrive.

Click on the SecureClient icon that appears on


the desktop
Enter the specified candidate Keycode into the
box
Select Download component to take later
option

You will now see a screen with


your details on it. If any of your
details are incorrect (e.g. the
spelling of your name), please
write the correct details on your
Keycode slip. You cannot amend
them.
Please click accept and then
confirm.

PIN codes
In a moment I will give you the
PIN code to unlock the test.
The PIN is the same for all of you
and is the same for all
components.
It is not case sensitive.
