Renaissance Architecture

The Renaissance began in 15th century Italy and spread across Western Europe, marking a revival of classical Greco-Roman architectural styles. Renaissance architecture featured massive masonry walls with round arches rather than pointed Gothic arches, as well as symmetrical designs and an emphasis on classical orders. Notable Renaissance architects standardized orders like Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian columns and applied them decoratively while also improving dome and vaulted ceiling designs. This new Renaissance style reflected a revival of interest in classical literature and architecture.
