The word comes from Latin verb
Communicare that means to impart, to share.

Communication is the process of sending &


receiving messages sometimes thru spoken
words, written words, and sometimes thru non
verbal means as facial expression, gestures,
voice quality.

information is shared, activities are
coordinated and decision making is
enhanced

of information and ideas from one person to

Linear Model of Communication


Sender: the message creator.
Encoding: the process of putting thoughts into messages through
the creation of content and symbols.
Decoding: the process of interpreting and assigning meaning to a
message.
Message: the transmitted information.
Channel: the medium through which the message passes.
Receiver: the target of the sender and collector of the message.
Noise: those distractions which interfere with the transmission of the
message.

Information source / sender: The sender has


some raw information, stimulus that creates
within an individual a need to communicate.
This can be internal/external.
a) Filter: Before a message is formulated it
goes thru filter. If everyone had the same
perception of events your job of
communicating would be easier. Filter helps
in shaping everyones unique impression
about reality.

Encoding: process of changing message(from


mental form into symbol that is patterns of
words.

Business Communication
Business communication is a specialized
branch of general communication, there is
no difference between the two.
There are two types of business activities
Internal and External.
The main purpose of business
communication is to obtain some results, to
secure an action by the receiver.
