What is Trigonometry?
The word Trigonometry is derived
from The Greek words tri meaning
three , gon meaning sides and
metron meaning measure.
Therefore , trigonometry is the study
of relationship between the sides and
angles of a triangle..
Evolution of Trigonometry
HIPPARCHUS was the FATHER OF
TRIGONOMETRY.
The modernsine functionwas first defined in theSURYA
SIDDHANTA, and its properties were further documented
by the 5th century (CE)Indian Mathematicianand
astronomerARYABHATA. These Greek and Indian works
were translated and expanded byMEDIVAL ISLAMIC
MATHEMATICIANS. By the 10th century, Islamic
mathematicians were using all six trigonometric
functions, had tabulated their values, and were applying
them to problems inSPHERICAL GEOMETRY.At about the
same time,CHINESEmathematicians developed
trigonometry independently, although it was not a major
field of study for them. Knowledge of trigonometric
