Computer Ethics

New technology
The new technology requires new laws
Lets say in society the only weapon that has been invented is
the bow and arrow
What laws would we then probably not have?
Concealed weapons?

What would happen if then the knife was invented?

Computer Ethics
Computers allow us to do things that before were not
possible
Store a complete movie on a DVD and play it on your
computer theft?
Send a message anywhere in the world at no cost to the user
invasion of privacy?

Computer Ethics
Because of the computer, the whole
ethics question has been placed in a new
context.
The issue of what is right or wrong is to a
large extent determined by the environment
in which you live, e.g. our laws are made
based on what is right or wrong in America.
Today, largely because of the computer, we
are in a new environment. It is a global
environment.

Computer Ethics
Because of the global nature of
computer technology, we are faced with
defining ethical issues in a global
environment.
What we consider right/wrong others
may consider wrong/right
This is especially true in terms of
prosecution
What/whose law was broken?
Who punishes/arrests?
Is it free speech?
