Online Inventories

Three students took online inventories to determine their learning styles and intelligences. The first inventory identified their learning style (visual, auditory, or tactile). The second used a multiple intelligence assessment to show strengths across different intelligences. The third inventory used the VARK model to assess whether students learn best through visual, auditory, reading/writing, or kinesthetic methods. The reflections noted that these inventories helped students understand how they learn and helped educators identify individual student needs. Individual findings were then presented for each student.

Education Planner: Whats Your Learning Style?

This inventory was given to three students to
determine their learning styles. In order to
complete the inventory, each students answered
20 multiple choice questions. The three different
learning styles are visual, auditory, and tactile.
These three learning styles influence the way a
learner understands information and solve
problems.
Auditory: hearing and listening
Visual: reading and seeing visuals
Tactile: touching and doing

Reflection
This inventory was very beneficial for the students who took it. It allowed them to
get a deeper understanding of how they learn. They were able to read in detail what
it meant to be an auditory learner, a visual learner, or a kinesthetic learner. It gave
them specifics on how to better themselves as learners within the classroom and
even the real world. In addition, as an educator, I find this information necessary so
that I can meet the needs of my students and how they process new information.

EduTopia: Multiple Intelligence Self Assessment

This inventory was given to the same three
students. The survey asked 24 questions that
needed to be answered with the first thought that
came to the students mind based on their daily
activities and interests. After completion, the
students were given a bar graph that depicted the
percentage of each intelligence they coincided
with.

Reflection
This inventory is a great way to allow learners to get a better understanding of the
different intelligences they use when learning. The learners were able to see where
they were the strongest and where they were the weakest when it came to Howard
Gardners Eight Intelligences. They can use this information to help them learn and
process new information within their education, as well as their daily lives. In
addition, educators can find this information useful when planning specific lessons
for their students; making sure to meet the needs of each individual student.

The VARK Questionnaire: How Do I Learn Best?

V- visual
A- aural
R- read/write
K- kinesthetic
This questionnaire included 16 questions that
helped the students understand how they learn
the best. When taking the questionnaire students
needed to select the answer or answers that best
explains their preference. If none of the answer
choices fit their preference, the students kept the
answer choices blank.

Reflection
VARK is a great assessment for learners to get a deeper understanding of how they
learn best. It is similar to Walter Burke Barbes Learning Style theory, but includes
a reading and writing aspect. This questionnaire allows students to determine if
they learn best through visual, auditory, reading/writing, and/or kinesthetic.
