This document is a chapter about biodiversity that focuses on reptiles. It begins with an introduction to reptiles, noting that they are ectothermic vertebrates that breathe air and lay eggs. It then provides examples and descriptions of different types of reptiles, including snakes, lizards, turtles, crocodiles, and iguanas. For each reptile type, it lists several examples and provides some key details about physical characteristics and habitats. The chapter concludes by restating that animals can be classified as vertebrates or invertebrates, with the five groups of vertebrates being mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and birds.

INTRODUCTION
Reptile is a vertebrate animal, they have a bony skeleton
just like us, breathe through lungs, are covered in
scales, are ectothermic, and typically lay eggs.
Characteristic is cold blooded, long body with defined
tails(lizard ),long body that taper into tails(snake), and
short-thick body bodies encased in shells (turtles).
Three chambered heart with a septum.
Greatly reduced metabolic rate so not much heat is
produced within the body.

EXAMPLES OF REPTILES
(SNAKE)
Living snakes are found on every continent except
Antarctica, in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
They have 3400 species.
Snakes are legless.
Many species of snakes have skulls with many more joints
than their lizard ancestors.
They range in size from the tiny, 10cm-long Barbados
thread snakes to the Reticulated python of up to 8.7
meters (29ft) in length.
The fossil species Titanoboa cerrejonensis was 15 meters
(49ft) long.

REPTILES
(LIZARD)
Lizards typically have feet and external ears,
while snakes lack both of these characteristics.
Lizards approximately 6000 species.
Lizards got colour vision to protect them from
enemies.
The adult length is about 3m(9.8ft).
The biggest length and size was about 17m(56
ft) and the name is mosasours.

LIZARDS
Brookesia Micra

REPTILES
(TURTLES)

Turtles are reptiles of the order Chelonii or

Testudines characterised by cartilaginous shell
developed from their ribs and acting as a shield.
Turtles are endangered animals.
Their high metabolic rate,
leatherback sea turtles have a body
temperature that is noticeably higher than that
of the surrounding water.
Turtles breathe air and do not lay eggs
underwater, although many species live in or
around water.

*The biggest size was 9.8 ft and 960 killograms.

REPTILES
(CROCODILE)
Crocodiles or true crocodiles are large aquatic
reptiles that live throughout the tropics in
Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia.
The lifespan for crocodile is 70-100 years.
The largest and aggressive crocodile are
Saltwater Crocodile.
Crocodile can live in water and on the land.

REPTILES
(IGUANAS)

Iguana is a genus of herbivorous lizards native to

tropical areas of Mexico, Central America,
several islands in Polynesia such as Fiji and
Tonga, and the Caribbean.
Iguana can range from 5 to 6 feet (1.5 to
1.8m) including their tail.
Iguana have 13 types of species.
Iguanas have great vision and can see shapes,
shadows, colors, and movement at long
distances.

CONCLUSION
1) Animals and plants are living things
2) Animals can be classified bye vertebrates
and inventebrates.
3) There are 5 groups of vertebrates.
4) Mammals,Reptiles,Amphibians,Fish and
Birds are vertebrates.
