Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB)

This document discusses the concept of nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB) using internet of things (IoT) and smart grid technologies. It introduces nZEB and the problems of increasing energy consumption due to population growth. It then describes how implementing IoT by connecting home appliances to smart meters and phones can improve energy efficiency monitoring and functionality. The use of smart grids and solar panels can help reduce consumption through energy transmission and local generation. The document hypothesizes that IoT-enabled appliances may need replacing more often but facilitate greater energy conservation overall.

Nearly Zero Energy Building(nZEB)

using IoT and Smart Grid

INTRODUCTION
We live in an era, where we depend more on energy
particularly electricity
Current buildings that we live in are not equipped
with any energy consumption reducing devices.
Energy mitigation measures are to be followed, if
energy has to be conserved.
The number of power generating stations are less,
when compared with that of power consuming
station.

PROBLEM BEING ADDRESSED

Due to the increase in population, the number of
buildings are the next to increase.
This leads to over consumption of mainly electricity
and other natural resources than the prescribed levels.
This over consumption leads to depletion of natural
resources which are the only source of survival for
man-kind

According to the survey on energy management taken

by Johnson Controls Institute for Building Efficiency,
there has been a global increase of 10% year over
year in companies that are paying a lot more
attention to energy efficiency.
This will pave way by reducing the consumption
thereby encouraging green electricity usage in the
future.

IMPLEMENTATION
The zero energy building can be implemented by
introducing the concept of Internet of Things in home
appliances
By introducing smart meters, the total usage of
electricity can be monitored.
By interfacing the home appliances with a smart
phone, the entire functionality of the devices can be
improved thereby paving way for an efficient
building.

IoT brings the

connect...
between the
Physical and the
Digital World.
It is a System
of Systems.

Due to the ever high increase in the consumption of

electricity, it will become mandatory in the upcoming
years to have solar panels in each house-hold. So, it
leads to the generation of electricity in each house.
This provides a tool to transfer electricity from one
place to another place thereby resulting in the
transmission of green energy to the neighbouring
areas.

Electronic
Connection
for an IoT

With the help of smart-grid, the unused energy can be

distributed to other places which are in need of
energy.
Also, by designing buildings with natural ventilation
facilities, the amount of energy can also be reduced.

HYPOTHESIS
Modern houses which is equipped with more
electrical equipments might stand for 50 years, with
all those components still being original at the end of
that period.
But a modern house built with the same number of
switches and outlets set up for Internet of Things
might see each switch and outlet replaced at five-year
intervals.

In order to keep up-to-date with technological

changes, a proper process of maintaining the
appliances. This translates into a ten-fold increase in
waste requiring disposal

RESULT
The interface of the appliances that we use in our
home through internet service with the help of smart
applications helps us to develop an energy conserving
ecosystem.
IOT is an increasing demand from the users and has a
great scope in nearby future. All the pollution causing
factors from appliances can be brought into control
with the help of IOT by designing a Smart and EcoFriendly Appliance.

With
increasing
use of IoT
energy
conservatio
n is highly
possible

By having a proper architecture in the designing of

buildings, it helps us to decrease the consumption of
energy.
True to the words of Benjamin Franklin
ENERGY AND PERSISTENCE ALTER ALL
THINGS
