Presentation Title Sequences

There are four categories of title sequences: titles on a black screen, titles on still images, titles over moving images, and titles using animation or motion. Titles on a black screen are the simplest form using white text on a black background. Titles on still images incorporate text with visual imagery to set the tone of the film. Titles over moving images often use metaphorical references and non-diegetic music to introduce themes without dialogue. Titles using animation or motion integrate credits as part of animated or stylized moving images through digital technology and editing.

TYPES OF

TITLE
SEQUENCES

HOW MANY TYPES OF TITLE

SEQUENCES ARE THERE?
There are four catagories of title sequences they are:
Titles on a black screen
Titles on still images
Titles over moving images
Titles using animation or motion
Each catagory has different aspects.

TITLES ON A BLACK
SCREEN.
These types of opening sequences are the most common and can
be considered the earliest form of opening title sequence. They
often commence on a black screen with white typeface to create
high contrast anf make credits and titles stick out to the audience.
Titles on a blank screen a very simple and are also very low
budget. An example of a film that uses this type of title sequence
is Pulp Fiction

TITLES ON STILL IMAGES

These are a bit more advanced than titles on a blank screen. In
these title sequences text is incoperated with visual image, the
way in which it is done is supposed to hint to the tone of the film.
Different media is combined to make the background the whole
sequences is accompanied by non-digietic background music to
manipulate the audience into feeling the mood of the film. Titles
on still images are more elaborate and aesthetically pleasing that
titles on a blank screen.

TITLES OVER MOVING

IMAGES
Titles over moving images are very elaborate. They often contain no
dialouge so that the audience can focus on the moving image.
Within the moving images metaphorical references to introduce
themes and storylines within the film are often used, non-digetic
music is sometimes used to accompany this. Credits and titles are
usually not placed randomly but are incoparated with the moving
image and sound, this makes it more visually pleasing. The moving
image often has effects to make it look better. An example of a title
sequences which uses this is Skyfall, the metaphors of danger are
shown within the dark colours of red and black as well as the props
such as guns. The text is incoparated within the moving image and
non-digetic music is used throught the sequence. There is no
dialouge.

TITLES USING ANIMATION

OR MOTION
In these title sequences credits and titles are not only incoprated
into moving images they become a part of them. Credits and
titles become intergrated with the moving images. As they include
animation, these type of title sequence use lots of digitalised
technology and stylized editing. An example of a title sequence
that uses this is Juno, it combines animation and real image. The
credits are in big bold colours and are intergrated within the
moving image as the manouver around buildings and other objects
in the sequence.
