Oshs History

Safety refers to protection from harm or undesirable outcomes. Occupational safety and health (OSH) laws have progressed in the Philippines since 1903. Key milestones include the Employer's Liability Act of 1908, the Workmen's Compensation Act of 1927, and the First Industrial Safety Law of 1936 which first required workplaces to ensure OSH promotion. The Philippines joined the International Labor Organization in 1948 and established the Occupational Safety and Health Center in 1988 as the first in Southeast Asia. OSH standards and laws have been regularly revised through tripartite collaboration between government, employers and workers representatives to improve workplace safety.
