Analysis For Aircom Drop Call Incidents

This document contains analysis reports for 8 different drop call incidents from Aircom. Each incident provides Aircom's comments on the potential cause of the drop call and the analysis done in response. Common issues identified include failed handovers due to HO parameter issues, pilot pollution from multiple cells covering an area, and locations with poor coverage due to building obstructions or cells overshooting their coverage area. The analyses examine RF coverage plots and statistics to evaluate the issues and propose potential configuration changes like HO parameter adjustments, antenna tilts, or new planned sites to address locations with coverage gaps.

Analysis Report for Aircom Drop

Call Incidents
(8 drop calls)
Date
1st MAY 2012

IR_01_DMVSC_01

Aircom Comments: Failed to update the Active Set. Need to verify the HO parameter at the
interchange 7 on SZR in Jabel Ali. Drop happened at 9715.
Analysis:
HO Parameters are verified. RF Conditions were observed to be fine at the drop location in the
recent drive of Sheikh Zayed Road for interchange 7. Coverage and quality plots are shown below.

Number of drops for this cell are shown below for this cell which is not high so HO parameter
changes are not changed.

Aircom Comments: Bad Ec/Io without receiving Active Set Update message. Adjust Cell offset
parameter to achieve earlier HO on cell 28. Aircom Drop happened at -99dbm and Ec/Io was -24.8.
Analysis:

Recent Drive Test plots are shown below for the area with the call drop location. Coverage and
Quality were fine.

Aircom Comments: MS reported the low quality without receiving DL measurement control to
trigger SHO, the reason because of the pilot polution. Need to change the physical parameter of
the cells surrounding the incident area in order to provide a dominant cell on the point of drop and
avoid Pilot Pollution.
Analysis:
As mentioned in the below snapshot, Ec/Io gets degraded on a small patch at the drop location and
there are four cells with good RSCP. 41533 should not serve at this location. Antenna Audit
requested for this sector and changes will be proposed accordingly to avoid this cell from serving at
this location.

Aircom Comments: Cell 4395 is covering outside it's nominal area beside many other cells which
cause pilot pollution.

Analysis:
Area lies in Null Lobe of the existing sites and pilot pollution exists. DXB5656 is Planned. It is
difficult to create dominance with the existing sites and is explained in the below snapshot.

Aircom Comments: Number of serving cells in this spot was 9 cells. Pilot Pollution and Physical
Changes.
Analysis:

Coverage is very poor at the drop location. However, on the road beside the street, coverage is
fine. Site is unable to serve on this inner road which because of buildings which is causing the
problem. DXB1769 is Planned.

Aircom Comments: Number of serving cells in this spot was 12 cells. Pilot Pollution. Physical
Changes.
Snapshot shows poor coverage at the drop call location. Drop was reported on 40563(PSC210).
However, this area is supposed to be served by Cell ID 12221. 12221 is not properly serving its area.
Antenna parameter audit is requested for this cell.

Aircom Comments: Cell ID (9753) is OS, MS Failed to update the Active Set, could be due to HO
parameters or resource availability on target cells. Ec/Io due to cell overshooting.
Analysis:
HO parameters are default and no resource availability issue found from statistics. RSCP and Ec/Io
were also observed to be fine. However, from the drive, overshooting is observed for 9753. Down Tilt
proposed.

Aircom Comments: UE was on cell 156 then changed to 182 which got a bad quality. HO
Parameter need to be changed. Call drop happened at -92.2 dbm. Play with HO parameters to
enable the HO from 156 to 471
Analysis:

RSCP and Ec/Io are shown below for the call drop location and were observed to be fine.
Neighbors are defined and handover parameters are set to default values. Location lies at the
border of all three serving cells in the area so changing HO parameter between two cells is not
recommended.
