Signal Theory: Report By: Pasquil, Michelle Yvone J

Mechatronics integrates electrical and mechanical systems using sensors, actuators, and an embedded computer. Signals can be classified as random or nonrandom, stationary or nonstationary, periodic or nonperiodic, and analog or digital. Random signals have uncertainty in their appearance, while nonrandom signals do not. Stationary signals have constant statistical parameters over time, unlike nonstationary signals. Periodic signals repeat after an interval, but nonperiodic signals do not repeat. Analog signals are continuous functions of time, whereas digital signals are not continuous.

Signal Theory

Report by: Pasquil, Michelle Yvone J.

Mechatronics
invented by the Japanese engineer Ko Kikuchi in
1969
Mechanical + Electronics

To integrate electrical and mechanical systems in

a single device

The heart of any mechatronic system is a computer or an

embedded processor that is connected to the actuators and
sensors that are part of the system.
Transducer
- an electronic device that converts energy
from one form to another

Sensor
- a device that detects and responds to some
type of input from the physical environment

Signal Generator
- anelectronicdevice that generates
repeating or non-repeating electronic
signals in either the analog or the digital
domain
Classifications of Signals
Random Nonrandom
Stationary- Nonstationary
Periodic- Nonperiodic
(power signal- energy
signal)
Analog- Digital
Random & Nonrandom Signals

Random Signals

- degree of uncertainty at the time of their

appearance

Nonrandom signals

is one about which there is no uncertainty before it

occurs.
Stationary & Nonstationary Signals

Stationary Signals

- are constant in their statistical parameters over

time

Nonstationary signals
- when statistical parameters of a signal do
change with time
Periodic & Nonperiodic Signals
(power signal- energy signals)

Periodic Signals
- a signal which repeats itself after a specific
interval of time
Nonperiodic Signals
- a signal which does not repeat itself after a
specific interval of time
Analog & Digital signals
Analog signal
is a continuous function of time

Digital signal
is not continuous
