The document discusses electron configuration, which is how electrons are arranged around the nucleus of an atom. It explains three rules for determining electron configuration: the Aufbau principle states that electrons fill lower energy orbitals first, the Pauli exclusion principle allows only two electrons per orbital with opposite spin, and Hund's rule fills orbitals with parallel electron spins first before pairing electrons. Diagrams show the electron configurations for elements from hydrogen to nitrogen using these rules.

Electron Configuration
Chemistry Mrs. Coyle Electron Configuration
The way electrons are
arranged around the nucleus. Three rules are used to build the electron configuration: Aufbau principle Pauli Exclusion Principle
Hunds Rule Aufbau Principle
Electrons occupy orbitals of
lower energy first. Pauli Exclusion Principle An orbital can hold only two electrons and they must have opposite spin. Hunds Rule
In a set of orbitals, the electrons will fill
the orbitals in a way that would give the maximum number of parallel spins.
