AFFIRMATIVE & NEGATIVE

STATEMENT
( TOO & SO / EITHER & NEITHER)

and negative (-) statement.
Become a short and effective
statement.
FORMULA Affirmative Statement:
Affirmative Statement SO:
Affirmative statement (be) + and + so + ( Auxiliary / Tobe ) + Subject

Affirmative Statement TOO:


Affirmative statement + and + subject + Auxiliary / tobe + too

Example:
1. I am happy and you are happy
* I am happy and you are too
* I am happy and so are you
2. We study English every week. She studies English every week.
* We study English every week and she does too.
* We study English every week and so does she.
FORMULA NEGATIVE STATEMENT
Negative Statement NEITHER:
Negative statement (be) + and + Neither + (Positive Auxiliary / Tobe ) + Subject

Negative Statement EITHER:


Negative statement + and + subject + Negative Auxiliary / tobe + Either

Example:
1. I am not happy and you are not happy
* I am not happy and you are not either
* I am not happy and neither are you

2. We dont study English every week. She doesnt study English every week.
* We dont study English every week and she doesnt either
* We study English every week and neither does she.
EXERCISE :
Using Affirmative Statement TOO or SO:

1. Rose likes to fly, and her brother _____ too.


2. They will leave at noon, and I _________ too.
3. He has an early appointment, and so ________ I.
4. She has already written her composition, and so _________ her
friends.
5. Their plane is arriving at 9.00 oclock, ans so ________ mine.
6. I should go grocery shopping this afternoon, and so _______ my
neighbor.
7. We like to swim in the pool, and they _________ too.
8. Our Spanish teacher loves to travel, and so ________ we.
9. He has livd in Mexico for five years, and you __________ too.

Using Negative Statement EITHER or NEITHER:

Combine these sentences by using too and so / either and neither !
1. He passed the last exam. She passed the last exam.
2. He is a good student. She is a good student.
3. John can speak English. Marry can speak English.
4. Rony isnt going to be late. Rika isnt going to be late.
5. We shouldnt arrive late. They shouldnt arrive late.
6. My shoes were expensive. My bag was expensive.
7. Rick didnt play tennis yesterday. Charlie didnt play tennis yesterday.
8. She has paid school-fee for this month. They have paid school-fee for
this month.
9. I didnt see Sintia this morning. He didnt see Sintia this morning.
10. Julia hasnt seen the new movie yet. I havent seen the new movie yet.
11. Examinations are necessary. Homework is necesasary.
12. Mr. Jack is a lecturer. Mrs. Maria is a lecturer.
13. He isnt studying now. They are arent studying now.
14. They watch TV every night. She watches TV every night.
15. We wont go to the store. I wont go to the store.
