Final Idea

The document provides details of James B's final idea project involving creating retro-style video game propaganda posters. The plan is to design a series of 3-5 posters based on video game franchises that fit within a World War-era style. James discusses potential game options like Fallout 4, Far Cry 4, and Metro and has already created initial posters for Fallout 4 promoting the Brotherhood of Steel faction and Far Cry 4 promoting the main villain. The level of detail provided on each game's setting and factions demonstrates James' knowledge and ability to design propaganda that aligns with the games' lore and time periods.

Final idea

By James B
Plan
My first idea is creating a war propaganda campaign, which will
generate the vintage style which was famously used in world war two
propaganda posters, except they are video game posters, because then
I am not advertising a real war, which would cause a lot of issues.
Another reason for this idea is that it links in easily, which will allow me
to have a series of posters, which are developed and therefore have a
collection, which has different games and looks, which would mean that
I can have a theme, making the final project make sense.

I could also expand dramatically if I wanted to, I could do this by using

different wars, for example having world war one and two, Vietnam and
the wars that are going on today. I could also use different games,
which means that I could have essentially unlimited designs, featuring
iconic characters, which fight in wars, which fits the theme and would
draw fans of the game to the designs, which would mean that my
images would have a good target audience.
Inspiration
My inspiration comes from my hobbies of games, the art style of the propaganda
posters along with posters I have already seen which feature game characters. The
ideas that I have came about when I was told about the project, it is about whatever I
want, making it about something I like, then my lecturer suggested having a vintage
and retro feel to the poster, because I like the art style, so I thought about how I could
connect the two ideas. I also thought about how I could make a new world war two
propaganda poster, however that would not be a good idea, because of the message it
would get across, therefore I would have to change it into something which presents a
good message, which is light hearted and fun, which would make people want to have
the poster on show, where it says something about them and shows their personality in
a good light. I thought about the ideas and remembered some posters that I have seen
somewhere and thought that everything made sense and fit together.

The idea for the propaganda posters came from Pintrest and google, where if you look
at games you can easily find good works of art, such as several in on the next slide. I
also thought that it would be fun to make, where I can use the skills I have learned
over the last half a year, making use of layering, to make modern images look older
and decayed, also being able to add the dots, stripes and other common themes of
older images, which would make it fit in and look like it could possibly have belonged in
a retro propaganda p, which were supposed to be bold, colourful and inspirational.
My images
I already started my images at this point, so this is written after the first two of
my images were made, this is because I lost the power point work that I did
one day, so I have to re do it.

My plan was to make a series of 3-5 images, each based on different game
franchises/ games, which would be Fallout 4, Far cry 4 (which I have already
made), Metro and if I have time, I will use some of the less interesting or
developed ideas, which would be Grand Theft Auto IV, Team fortress 2 and
maybe No mans sky (as a joke entry), CS: GO and finally any that I think could
be good ideas, however these are extremely unlikely to happen any time soon,
because they are not great ideas, as I either dont know much about the
games, cant find a faction to promote, also I dont care about these games
enough to create a good piece, that captures the games essence.

The first three ideas, the ones that I will make/ have made, are because they
have factions or really good strong characters, that are in a plausible time era
for the art style, so that it fits the theme and makes sense, which means that it
could have been an official piece, by the games creators.
Fallout 4
This one is perfect, because the game is set in an alternate history,
where we used nuclear powered things, instead of electricity, making
some odd contraptions, and completely changing history. After world
war two, there was a war with china, that escalated into china
dropping nuclear bombs on America.

This is good, because it made the world war two era posters and art
style stick around, so my posters would fit in easily and make a lot of
sense to the world and lore.

I am also a fan of the game, I know all the factions, their motives and
attributes, which makes it easy to explore and work on each faction, it
also allows me to develop my idea, meaning that I can create a poster
for different factions, so that people can have different preferences
and I can have more pieces and develop a collection/ theme based
around one game.

My piece
Same piece (zoomed in)
Fallout 4 explanation
This piece is focused around the brotherhood of steel, with the
saluting soldier in the famous power armour, with the brotherhoods
motto at the top. This is supposed to put the man in the foreground,
in a position of power, which is supposed to inspire people to like the
brotherhood they also have the wasteland behind, showing that they
own the land and are the most powerful force in the area, which is
how they appear in the game.

In the second one, I have cropped the image, so that there is only the
soldier, which crops out the empty space behind. It could also show
how the brotherhood is very self-centred, where they are focused on
expanding their influence, ignoring everyone who cant help them.
They arrive in the game aboard a massive air balloon, with their base
set up in an airport, they can (depending on the players decisions)
leave taking out an underground base with a giant robot with nuclear
bombs.
Far cry 4
I chose to do far cry 4, because it is a very colourful game,
with interesting characters, that are self centred,
flamboyant and bold. I planned on looking at some
examples on the internet, this paired with the game, it
inspired me to create a colourful piece, which I used a
technique that creates loads of small dots, these along with
the stripes that I added created an interesting overall piece,
which I think is better than the first piece.

I could also develop this piece, making posters for the

resistance/ main character, however the main villain is also
much more interesting and in a way, is more important/ a
part of the plot than the main character, who seems to be a
vassal to progress through the story.

Far Cry 4 explanation
There is a colour scheme of reds and yellows, which blend in to the
game which is set somewhere in Asia, in a probably fictional place
called Kyrat.

I also have four layers, as the background, one is an Asian floral

background, another is a striped background, emanating from the
middle, then I made the small dots that are subtle, but add more
detail in the background, adding more to the empty parts, covering
everything and finally I burned the whole thing, then lightened it
going inwards, so that it flows with the stripes.

Then I added the main character a campaign slogan, along with the
name of the game, to sum it up and so that people who dont know
the game will hear about it, however I am not too sure that it makes
sense, so I might make another copy with out that piece.
Metro
This game is in another post apocalyptic setting, which is set in Russia.
For some reason everyone has been forced into the metro systems, as
the surface has been swarmed with monsters, the survivors
underground are fighting for survival, but factions have formed and of
course they are fighting. There are three factions, which are inspired by
the world war two factions, such as Nazis, communists and democrats.

The factions allow me to create posters, they also seem to have very
heavy influences world war two, which allows me to make several
themed posters, I will probably focus on the democratic side, because
they have a Spartan sort of style, they are the most elite fighters in the
metro. They also have the stereotypical good guy theme, where they
care about people and the metro.

The main character is also one of the Sparta rangers who has to set
off and save the metro and world from an evil threat.
