What is Microsoft
PowerPoint?
PowerPoint is a presentation program developed
by Microsoft. It is included in the standard Office
suite along with Microsoft Word and Excel.
USES:
PowerPoint is often used to create business
presentations.
Used for educational or informal purposes.
Animate your slides to give them greater
visual impact.

Design
The Design tab enables us to personalize our
presentation using themes and backgrounds.
Within Design tab there are 3 groups. Each group
has commands that can be accessed on the ribbon.
Themes ------- Themes
Variants ------ Variants of themes
Customize ---- Slide size / Format Background

Themes: PowerPoint has many themes to give


our presentation the right personality.
Each theme use its own unique set of colors, fonts
and effects to create the overall look and feel of
our slide.

Variants: This group customizes the look of


current design. It provides different colors, fonts,
effects and backgrounds.

Customize: This group contains two options


which are Slide Size, changes the size of slides in
our current presentation. And Format Background,
fine-tune the formatting for your background.
Layout
Slide Layout is a very useful feature because they
let you use a preset arrangement of placeholders
repeatedly, resulting in consistent looking slides.

Within the Home tab of the Ribbon, click
the Layout button to access the Layout
drop-down gallery, as shown.
Picture & background
The presentation theme includes a standard
background. The background might be a
color or it might include a background
graphic.

You can customize slide backgrounds by removing the


background graphic and filling the slide background with a
solid color, a color gradient, a texture, a pattern, or a
picture of your choice. You make these changes in the
Format Background pane.
Drawing toolbar
Drawing toolbar allows us to draw different shapes like
circle, rectangles easily and quickly. This also allows us to
easily format these shapes.
This toolbar is one of the group of Home tab.

In this section, there is a option of shapes. It is used to


draw different types of shapes. Categorized into several
types: Recently Used, Lines, Rectangles, Basic Shapes,
Block Arrows and so on.

Next is Arrange box, is used to arrange
objects on slide by changing their order, position
and rotation.
Quick Styles box is used to quickly add a visual
style to the selected shape or line. Each style uses
a unique combination of colors, lines and other
effects to change the shapes appearance.
Shape fill allows us to fill the selected shape
with a solid color, gradient, picture or texture.
Shape outline is for picking the color, width
and line style for the outline of our shape.
Shape Effects applies a visual effect to the
Grouping & Un-grouping :

Grouping is the process of making a single


selection of a disparate or similar set of slide
objects, so that when you select it again, you end
up selecting the entire group rather than a single
object.

The process in which breaking of a grouped object
back into individual objects.

Resizing Slide

By default, size of slides in PowerPoint is 16:9


proportion which is widescreen display.
But we can change the size of slides as we want.
This can be found in Design tab in Customize
group.

From this Dropdown menu we can select
standard size with ratio 4:3 or create our custom
slide size.
