Sasando Presentation

Sasando is a traditional string musical instrument that originates from Rote Island in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. [1] The sasando is made from bamboo tubes with circular lumps inside to hold the strings at different tensions, producing different tones. [2] There are varying legends about its origins, but it has been used in Rote Island communities since the 7th century and was developed from its initial 9 strings to sometimes have over 50 strings today to produce a wider range of tones. comes from Rote Island, East Nusa
Tenggara. Literally Sasando according
to the origin of the name he said in
Rote, sasandu, which means tools that

... One night, dreaming Sangguana
was playing a beautiful instrument and
voice forms.
Inspired by the dream, Sangguana
created instrument he named sandu
(ie vibrate). When he was playing, the
princess asked what song is playing,
and Sangguana replied, "Sari Sandu".
Instrument was given by sangguana to
the princess.

Initially, nine stringed sasando. Then sasando


developed and consists of two types according
to the number of strings. There sasando gong
being roped 9-10 and sasando violin roped 24
to 32. However, over time, dialogs and cultural
allusions enrich the sound produced sasando.
Modifications made to increase the number of
strings of up to 39 to 42. In fact, there is also
added to 56 strings. Besides, now not only
able to sing sasando tones pentatonic, but can
also diatonic tones. In fact, not a few artists
who make sasando electricity.
