Inheritance and

The document discusses the structure and components of DNA and RNA. It explains that DNA is located in cell nuclei and determines inherited traits through chromosomes. DNA is a double helix structure made of repeating nucleotide units that each contain a phosphate group, deoxyribose sugar, and a nitrogenous base. RNA is single-stranded and comes in three types. The document also describes Chargaff's rule, which established that DNA contains equal amounts of adenine-thymine and cytosine-guanine base pairs.

Variation
Structure of DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), a molecule
located in the nucleus of the cell.
It makes up the chromosomes that
determines the traits you inherit from
your parents.
A very large chain of repeating units
called polymer, which are formed by
monomers.
Double helix strand.
Components of DNA
Consists of an equal amount of four
nucleotides that involves in cell
reproduction.
Each nucleotide contains three
components:
One phosphorus with one oxygen(phosphate
group)
A five-carbon sugar (deoxyribose)
A nitrogen-containing base (either a single-
ringed pyramidine or a double-ringed purine)
Structure of RNA
Ribonucleic acid (RNA) single strand
molecules.
Has three types:
mRNA (messenger RNA)
rRNA (ribosomal RNA)
tRNA (transfer RNA)
Chargaffs Rule of DNA
Erwin Chargaff (1950) found the same
bases in the DNA that composes all
organisms.
It states that:
adenine pairs with thymine
cytosine pairs with guanine
The bases form weak hydrogen bonds
DNA has an equal amount of adenine and
thymine; cytosine and guanine
