Visual Inspection and Other NDE Methods and Symbols

This document discusses visual inspection (VT) and other non-destructive examination (NDE) methods for welding. VT is the most cost-effective NDE method but has limitations as it only examines surfaces. VT should be performed before, during, and after welding to check for defects and compliance with welding procedures. Other common NDE methods mentioned are penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, and eddy current testing. These methods use different energy sources like dye, magnetism, x-rays, sound waves or eddy currents to detect discontinuities below surfaces.
