Examination Candidate Verification System Using Biometric
The document discusses developing an automated biometric verification system using fingerprint scanning to address examination misconduct and malpractices in Nigeria. It identifies the key problems as lack of credible identity verification and student impersonation. The proposed solution involves developing a system using Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Access that incorporates fingerprint scanners to automatically enroll and verify candidates' identities during entrance exams at Kogi State Polytechnic, in order to track impersonators, reduce corruption, and enforce security measures. The aim is to defeat examination malpractices by establishing an accurate identity verification process.

2014/HND/CPS/019 Abstract The issue of examination misconducts and malpractices that has been a pain of Nigeria for decades despite the visible efforts by scholars is examined in this paper. The main fundamental problems are identified as the absence of a credible identity verification system. This has an over bearing effect on knowing who should be where and at what time. Biometrics is considered as an adequate solution, with its proven achievement level in identification and verification of identities effectively answering the question- who you are. But given the standard of Nigeria, there are general and solution specific requirement to be met for a successful implementation of biometrics in Nigeria. The proposed malpractice solution; a scanner based fingerprint verification technology incorporating the security strength of scanners and the accuracy and speed of fingerprint biometrics is presented. A case for it is made, discussing the choice of technologies, cost and the views of the stakeholders. This project concludes by looking at limitations of the presented solution and necessary future work if examination malpractices will be absolutely defeated. the program is developed using Visual Basic .Net and Microsoft Access for its database. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM 1. Student impersonation 2. Insecure authentication of candidates 3. Manual verification of candidates AIM AND OBJECTIVES The aim of this project is to automate the enrollment and verification system of entrance examination undergo in Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja. The objectives include: 1. Tracking impersonators in examination system. 2. To reduce rate of corruption in the educational sector and increase the rate of self-confidence on candidates. 3. To enforce strictly security measures that ensure unregistered candidate do not write exams for the other registered candidates.
