This document provides instructions for constructing a stem and leaf display, a method of organizing and displaying quantitative data. It explains that the stem and leaf display lists data values in ascending order, with the first column containing the stems (made up of one or more digits) and the second column containing the corresponding leaves. It also notes that the stem usually represents the first or second digits of the data values, while the leaf represents the remaining digits, and gives an example of how 96 would be displayed.

Stem and Leaf Display
Group 3 Data to be used:
Source: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers 6th Edition, Montgomery & Runger, 2014 Procedure for constructing a Stem and Leaf display:
1. Decide on what digits will consist of the stem and
the leaf in each data value 2. List in ascending order in the first column of the display the data values representing the stems 3. Write in a row at the right side of each stem (in a second column) its various leaves 4. Indicate below or beside the display, the digit place value that is used for the stem and the leaf Source: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers 6th Edition, Montgomery & Runger, 2014 Stems = first or second digits Leaves = remaining digits Ex. Stem = 9 & Leaf = 6 is 96
