Motion Graphs: Lance Tabel Calvin Discaya Kobe Hayrana

This document discusses different types of motion graphs and uniform motion. It describes: 1) Two main types of motion graphs - displacement-versus-time and velocity-versus-time graphs. Displacement graphs show average and instantaneous velocity, while velocity graphs show acceleration and displacement. 2) Uniform motion has zero acceleration and constant velocity. The displacement graph is a straight line with slope equal to average velocity. 3) Uniformly accelerated motion graphs displacement as a parabola, with tangent lines showing instantaneous velocity. The velocity graph is a straight line with slope equal to acceleration. Uniformly decelerated motion is the opposite, with negative acceleration and velocity in opposite directions.

TYPES OF MOTION
GRAPHS
1. displacement-versus-
time graph
- determination of average velocity
and instantaneous velocity
2. velocity-versus-time
graph

- helps in the analysis of

acceleration and displacement
UNIFORM MOTION
UNIFORM - acceleration is zero and velocity is constant
- d=vt wherein d is displacement, v is velocity, t is time
MOTION
- y=mx+b wherein m is the slope and b is the y-intercept
- slope must be equal to average velocity and y-intercept
equal to 0
- since velocity is constant, average velocity is equal to
instantaneous velocity
UNIFORMLY ACCELERATED
MOTION AND UNIFORMLY
DECELERATED MOTION
UNIFORMLY  d = v0t + 1/2at2
 graph of displacement-versus-time is a parabola from which instantaneous velocity
ACCELERATED  tangent line (straight line that touches a curve at a single point but does not cross the

MOTION curve at that point)

 slope of a tangent line is the slope of the curve at that point and is equal to
instantaneous velocity

 average velocity is the slope of the straight line joining the two points on the curve
corresponding to the start and the end of the time interval under consideration

 v = v0 + at
• the graph of velocity-versus-time is a straight line with a slope equal to acceleration
and a y-intercept equal to v0. If v0 is zero, then the line passes through the origin.
UNIFORMLY
DECELERATED  there are times that the slope of a displacement-versus-time
graph or a velocity-versus-time graph is negative
MOTION  negative acceleration not necessarily means deceleration
 negative acceleration means acceleration in negative direction
 a body is speeding up when the acceleration and velocity are
in the same direction

 a body is decelerating when the acceleration and velocity are

in the opposite direction
