Engine Start Flow

After Start Flow
• VAC – Check
• Fuel pumps – off
• Avionics Master – On
• Turn and Bank – On
• Cabin Seal power switch – On
• Oil – Check
• JPI – Set
• 496 GPS – Initialize
• Transponder – STBY/Code
• Cross feed on, fuel tank selector, off on one side
• Fuel gauge check
• Flaps – Up
• HSI – Slaved
• Comm Radio – Set
The Dirty Up Flow
• Power back to appx 13"
• Props full
• Mixtures full rich
• 2 1/2 turns nose up trim
• Gear down
• Three green, flaps one half
• Power to maintain altitude (16”)
• Final trim hands off 85-90 MPH
• Landing checklist
Slow Flight Clean
• Clear Area
• Reduce POWER to 10" MP
• Props FULL FORWARD / Mix FORWARD
• PITCH to 70 MPH (trim 2.5 Turns)
• Increase POWER to 15"MP for Level
Flight (apply 5MPH early)

• RECOVER: 25/25
The Dirty Up Flow
• Power back to appx 13"
• Props full
• Mixtures full rich
• 2 1/2 turns nose up trim
• Gear down
• Three green, flaps one half
• Power to maintain altitude (16”)
• Final trim hands off 85-90 MPH
• Landing checklist
Vmc Demonstration (above 3000 AGL)
1. Clear area
2. Power 15” MP
3. Props FORWARD mixture RICH
4. Split throttles – left engine windmilling (power OFF), right
engine FULL power – simultaneous FULL LEFT RUDDER
5. Maintain heading
6. Pitch for Vyse (blue line) 96 mph, zero side slip
7. Pitch up 1 degree/second or 1 mph/second
8. First indication of loss of directional control – RECOVER:
– LOWER nose
– REDUCE power on GOOD engine, Level wings
– Above Vsse 90 mph – good engine full throttle
– Pitch for Vxse 85 mph / Vyse 96 mph as appropriate
Engine Restart Procedures
1. Fuel Selector - ON After Engine Starts:
2. Aux Fuel Pump - ON 1. Throttle - AS REQUIRED
3. Mixture - FULL RICH 2. Propeller - AS REQUIRED
4. Magnetos - ON 3. Aux Fuel Pump - OFF
5. Propeller Control - FULL FORWARD 4. Engine Instruments - CHECK
6. Throttle – 3-4 FULL PUMPS, 5. Engine Warm-Up - 15” MP /
THEN FAST IDLE 2400 RPM for 3-5 min
7. Starter (recommend below 100 mph) – 6. Power and Trim - AS
ENGAGE REQUIRED

If no start: If airstart is unsuccessful:


1. Primer - ONE STROKE, THEN LOCKED return propeller control to
2. Starter - REENGAGE FEATHER position and secure
3. Throttle – AS REQUIRED engine.
Approach to Landing Stall
1. CLEAR area RECOVERY:
2. POWER to 13” MPH  FULL POWER
3. PROPS FORWARD /  Reduce pitch, level
MIXTURE FORWARD wings
4. SLOW below 125 mph,  Flaps UP
GEAR DOWN  Pitch for Vx = 85 mph
5. Flaps FULL Positive climb –
GEAR UP
6. GUMPSBL check Pitch for Vy = 100 mph
7. Pitch 85 MPH , trim Return to Cruise Flight
8. Power IDLE 25/25
9. Maintain altitude with pitch
9. At the stall, RECOVER
Departure Stall
1. Clear area
2. PROPS FORWARD / MIXTURE FORWARD
3. Reduce power to 13” MP
3. Pitch for 80 mph
4. Power 20” MP
5. Increase pitch, maintain altitude
6. At the stall, RECOVER:
 Full POWER
 Reduce pitch, level wings
 Apply rudder as necessary for coordinated flight
 Pitch for climb (Vx = 85 mph, Vy = 100 mph)
Emergency Descent (Task VIIIA)
1. Power idle
2. Props – full
3. Gear down below 125 mph, (150 mph, max)
4. Pitch for 125 mph
5. Bank 45 degrees
