• Latent heat of iron =0.45 𝑗/𝑔℃
• Density of iron 𝜌 = 7.87 g/𝑐𝑚3
• Melting point = 1538℃
• Maximum temperature of furnace =1100℃
Energy required to rise the temperature to
1075℃
• 𝜃 = 𝑚𝑐𝑝 ∆𝑡
=1500*0.450*1075
• Q= 725625 joule

• Required energy for phase change


• q= m*L
• q=1500*272
• q=408000 joule
• Total energy =Q + q = 1133625 joule
• Total energy = 314.8 wh
Heat storage in muffle
• Muffle dimensions
• Volume of chamber = 4*4*9=144𝑖𝑛𝑐ℎ3
• 𝑐𝑝 = 880 𝐽/𝑘𝑔℃
• ∆𝑡 = 1100℃
• m = 2.5 kg

• Required energy =𝑚𝑐𝑝 ∆𝑡


=2.5*880*1100
=2420000
Q= 672.22wh
Heat storage in glasswool
• Density = 128 𝑘𝑔/𝑚3
• Mass= 3 kg
• Specific heat 𝑐𝑝 = 668 𝑗/𝑘𝑔℃

=314.18 + 672.2 +299.98 +0.859
