TRANSFORMER

PRECOMMISSIONING CHECKLISTS
WARNING !!!
• Read thoroughly and understand the
TRANSFORMER INSTALLATION &
COMMISSIONING MANUAL, before starting
the erection work.
Pre commissioning checks on power
transformers
• A thorough check on the transformer is to be
made systematically before commissioning the
transformer.
1.Record all particulars such as ratings, serial
number , capacity , voltage ratio etc.
2.Record serial number, rating and making of all
components of the transformer such as
bushings, tap changer, cooling system , fans ,
oil and gas operated relays, temperature
indicators . These are essential for the
maintenance point of view.
3. All Valves shall be checked. Radiator valves,
Buchholz relay valves etc. shall be in open position.

4.Check oil level in main conservator tank and tap


changer conservator tank.

5.Chck oil level in bushings, if sealed bushings are


used.

6.Check the oil level in the oil seal of silicagel


breather.

7.Check cooling fans, connection to control etc.


8. Check connections to the marshalling kiosk and
to the control panel & control room.

9.Check and verify all protective relay connection


and settings of relays.

10.Check settings of OTI ,WTI etc. and functioning


of OTI, WTI, Buchholz relays , Magnetic Oil Level
gauge etc. for ALARM & TRIP conditions.

11.Check Earthing of Neutral , Tank , Bushing C.T.


terminal, Earthing bond between top and bottom
tank.
12.Check the Stoppers of roller wheels.

13.Check the bushing arcing horn gap settings.

5 Oil level in the HV bushings are checked
6 Colour of oil in the HV bushings
7 Air released from all LV, LV neutral & HV
neutral bushings
8 Shut-off valves on both sides of Buchholz-
relay are opened and closed the bye-pass
valve of the buchholz relay
9 All Air-release plugs/valves is closed
10 Arrow-head in the Buchholz-relay points
towards the conservator
11 Checked the LOCK/SERVICE selector of
Buchholz relay (main tank) is in SERVICE
12 Checked the LOCK/SERVICE selector of
Buchholz relay (OLTC) is in SERVICE
13 O S R/ Buchholz-relay of OLTC shut-off
valve is open
14 Colour of the silica gel in the OLTC
breather is blue
15 Oil-Bowl in the Main breather is filled
with oil
16 Colour of the Silica Gel in the Main-
Breather is blue
17 OSR Arrow-head points towards the
conservator
18 Trapped air has been released from
radiators, Buchholz Relay, Plain
porcelain bushings etc.
19 Oil is filled in the OTI & WTI Pockets
20 Explosion-Vent diaphragms (if any) are
intact
21 Oil does not leak any where
22 Oil-filling cap on the main conservator is
duly fitted
23 All sampling Drain and Fitter valves are
closed
24 All the Radiator valves (Top and
Bottom) are open
25 Tank is earthed
26 Neutral-terminal is duly earthed (Incase
of solid earthing system)
35 Rollers are locked (If any)

36 Rails are earthed

37 Core grounding is OK (if grounded


externally)

38 CT Secondary terminal if not wired,

RECIPT OF ALL THE ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS AND PARTS OF
TRANSFORMER.

DO NOT ISTALL ANY ITEM WHICH IS DAMAGED DURING


TRANSIT.

DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK NITROGEN PRESSURE ON RECIPT OF


TRANSFOMER MAIN BODY AND INFORM DISCRIPENCY IF ANY
TO TELK.
DO NOT LIFT THE TRANSFRMER WITH A LIFTING
ANGLE OF SLING GREATER THAN 300

DO NOT JACK THE TRANSFORMER IN ANY PLACE


OTHER THAN JACKING PAD.

DO NOT USE LOW CAPACITY LIFTING JACKS / SLINGS


ON TRANSFORMER FOR JACKING / LIFTING.

MEN SHOULD NOT ENTER THE TRANSFORMER BEFORE


PURGING NITROGEN BY OIL FILLING.
GASKETS ONCE USED SHOULD NOT BE USED AGAIN.

GASKETS SHOULD NOT BE STORED IN HOT


ATMOSPHERE AND IN ROLLED CONDITION.
THE INTERNAL BODY OF TRANSFORMER SHOULD NOT
BE EXPOSED TO ATMOSPHERE FOR MORE HAN 8
HOURS.

ANY BLIND COVER IN THE MAIN BODY SHALL NOT BE


OPENED WHEN THERE IS SLIGHTEST SIGN OF RAIN
DROPS OR DUST GETTING INSIDE.

NO TOOL SHALL BE TAKEN INSIDE THE TRANSFORMER


WITHOUT TYING TO THE MEN USING THE SAME.

NO GASKET JOINTS SHALL BE OVER TIGHTNED OR


UNDER TIGTHTNED, AS BOTH LEADS TO OIL LEAKAGE.
NO OIL WITH BDV LESS THAN AND WATER CONTENT
GREATER THAN THE SPECIFIED VALUE SHALL BE
FILLED IN THE TRANSFORMER.

RUBBER HOSES SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR OIL


FILLING, AS THE SULPHUR IN THE RUBBER WOULD
REACT WITH IT.

NO SECONDARY TERMINALS OF THE BCTS ARE KEPT


OPEN.

WHILE OPERATING THE OLTC DO NOT STOP THE


CRANKING, BEFORE THE GREEN ZONE INDICATOR
COMES UNDER THE ARROW MARK.
DO NOT COUPLE THE DRIVING MECHANSM AND THE
TAP SELECTOR WHILE THEY ARE IN DIFFERENT TAPS.

DO NOT APPLY MORE THAN 450 VOLTS FOR TAKING


THE VOLTAGE RATIO.

DO NOT APPLY HIGH VOLTAGE TO THE TRANSFORMER


BEFORE ENSURING THE RATIOS ARE AS PER RATING
PLATE.

DO NOT OPERATE OFF CIRCUIT TAP CHANGER WHEN


THE TRANSFORMER IS ENERGISED.

DO NOT ENERGISE THE TRANSFORMER UNLESS THE


OFF CIRCUIT TAP CHANGER HANDLE IS IN LOCKED
POSITION.
DO NOT OVERLOAD THE TRANSFORMER BEYOND
RELEVENT STANDARD LIMIT.

DO NOT CHANGE THE SETTING OF WTI, OTI, Etc.


ALARM AND TRIP FREQUENTLY.

DO NOT LEAVE ANY CONNECTION LOOSE.

DO NOT MEDDLE WITH PROTECTION CIRCUITS.

DO NOT LEAVE ANY CUBICLE DOOR OPEN, THEY MUST


BE LOCKED.

DO NOT ALLOW UNAUTHORISED ENTRY NEAR THE


TRANSFORMER.
DO NOT LEAVE THE LADDER UNLOCKED, WHILE THE
TRANSFORMER IS LIVE.

DO NOT MEASURE INSULATION RESISTANCE USING


MEGGER, WHILE THE TRANSFORMER IS UNDER
VACUUM.

DO NOT OPERATE THE TRANSFORMER WITH TEST TAP


CAP OF CONDENSER BUSHING OPEN OR LOOSELY
TIGHTNED.
