Ms. Marianne wanted to survey her students about a new school schedule. She selected 2 students from each class randomly to participate. This is an example of stratified sampling, which divides the population into homogeneous subgroups (classes) and then randomly samples from each subgroup. Stratified sampling improves precision by reducing sampling error compared to a simple random sample of the whole population. Teacher Aniza noticed her year 4 English students often did not do their homework. She wanted to conduct action research to study this issue and modify teaching and learning activities. Appropriate data analysis methods for her action research would be interviews, observations, and questionnaires. These methods allow the collection of qualitative data needed to understand the problem and identify solutions as part of an iterative

Data Analysis Methods

1. Ms. Marianne wanted to know her students' opinions on the

new schedule at school. So she randomly selected 2 students
from each of her classes to survey.
Assuming that all of her classes are roughly the same size.
Elaborate on the form of sampling and justify why she should
choose that.
Answer
Stratified Sampling

Stratification is the process of dividing members of the population into

homogeneous subgroups before sampling. The strata should be mutually exclusive:
every element in the population must be assigned to only one stratum. The strata
should also be collectively exhaustive: no population element can be excluded.
Then simple random sampling or systematic sampling is applied within each
stratum. The objective is to improve the precision of the sample by reducing
sampling error. It can produce a weighted mean that has less variability than the
arithmetic mean of a simple random sample of the population.

2. Pupils of year 4 English lesson always do not do their

homework. Teacher Aniza wanted to study this issue and modify
the teaching and learning activities through action research.
Suggest data analysis methods to assist her action research and
justify why?
Answer
Action Reaserch – Mill’s Dialectic AR

Types:
1. Interview
2. Observation
3. Questionnaire
