What is the digestive system?

The digestive system is a long tube,


with important glands associated,
being your function the transformation
of certain molecules of the food
in simple music and easily usable
by the organism.
Why is digestion important?

Digestion is important because your


body needs nutrients from food and
drink to work properly and stay healthy.
Proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins ,
minerals , and water are nutrients.
Your digestive system breaks nutrients
into parts small enough for your body to
• Proteins break into absorb and use for energy, growth,
amino acids and cell repair.
• Fats break into fatty acids
and glycerol
• Carbohydrates break into
simple sugars
.

Mouth
In the mouth it starts proper digestion.
The teeth grind the food and secretions
the salivary glands they moisten and
start their chemical decomposition.

This conduit fulfills a


dual function;breathing
and swallowing.

During swallowing the Epiglotis


bends and lifts the pharynx.

glottis and seal the pharynx,

The food bolus for the esophagus,


which is a smooth-walled tube that
connects the pharynx with the
stomach,through the cardia,which
works like a sphincter or valve that
opens when food arrives and
closes when it has passed .

The stomach also acts
as transitory reservoir
of food and by the
acidity of your secretions,
has a certain antibacterial
action.

In this stretch of the digestive tract,


food is decomposed by pancreatic juice,
bile and intestinal secretions,so that
you can absorb and make
efficient use of the compounds
nutritious.
