WHAT IS NETIQUETTE?
 Netiquette is a set of social convention that facilitate interaction over
networks ranging from Usenet and mailing list to blogs and forums.
 Set of rules for behaving properly online.
 These rules were described in Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF) RFC 1855.
 Using a simple electronic signature and avoiding multiposting,
cross-posting, off-topic posting, hijacking a discussion thread.

HISTORY
 Netiquette began before the 1991 start of the World Wide
Web.Text-based email, Telnet, Usenet, Gopher, Wais, and
FTP from educational and research bodies dominated
Internet traffic. At that time, it was considered somewhat
indecent to make commercial public postings, and the
limitations of insecure, text-only communications demanded
that the community have a common set of rules. The term
"netiquette" has been in use since at least 1983.

NETTIQUETTE BASICS
 HELP THE NEWBIES

For the newbies, it is considers a good nettiquette to answer the


question via email, in news groups, on mailing lists, and in chat
rooms and share your knowledge.

 RESEARCH BEFORE ASKING

You always check the frequently ask question file, search the
internet and newsgroup for the answer before sending an email to
human being.

 REMEMBER EMOTION

Don’t use capital letter to write an email because it designates as a


shouting, mad and etc.
 People Aren't Organizations

Many people send an email account direct to their client. Don’t do


that because never assume that the person is speaking for the
organization that they work for.

NETIQUETTE SENDING
 BE BRIEF

If you got a lot of email and not be able to read it, you can do your
part to reduce this workload by using brevity to maximize clarity.
 INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS

Always include your email address when formard something


messages.
 STAY ON-TOPIC

Never post off-topic messages, not related to the subject of the


mailing list or newsgroup.

 USE WHITE SPACE

Use white space to enhance readability.


 COPY THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE

You should only copy more than one mailing list or newsgroup if
the message is genuinely useful and on-topic, and do your part to
reduce everybody's email load.

NETIQUETTE REPLYING
 REPLYING AND FORWARDING

Reply to sender- reply directly through email or post in newgroup.

Minimize forwarding- pare down the addressee list to those that


need to know or may be interested in the what you have to say, to
do your part to reduce the overall volume of email.

forward when necessary- don’t forward email to someone that


have the original email.
 REFERENCES PAST COMMUNICATION

Don’t include more than necessary, otherwise people will give up


reading.

 ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IMPORTANT COMMUNICATION

If someone send you an important email, it is good to send them a


quick acknowledgement to tell them that you have got the email.
 CHECK CURRENT INFORMATION BEFORE REPLYING

Check your email first before replying if there nothing changes


about the email there no need to reply it.

 DON’T PUBLICIZE OTHER EMAIL ADDRESS

Don’t publish another person email or send their email to stranger.


 NEVER SEND WHAT YOU DON’T READ

Never forward email that you don’t read, or send someone


attachment that you haven’t examined.
 REMEMBER ARCHIVING

If you’re not prepared to have your word archive, they will not reply
your messages.
