INTRODUCTION
Background of the study
• Bangladesh is an extremely disaster prone country, causing
significant damage to the coastal community and environment
• Social relationship of a community is adversely affected by disaster
occurrence
• Social capital has played an important role in different stages of
disaster risk management cycle, especially at the community level
• This study focused on the key conception of social capital with
respect to the disaster management by assessing knowledge and
practice of behavior among the inhabitants of south-west coastal
region of Bangladesh

CONCLUSION
• Bonding social capital was found in abundance in the study area
because of the common historical background of the settlement

• Bridging helped in financial and service support. But after a period of


time during disaster situation, it become less active due to
competition with moderately lower trust and solidarity.

• Knowledge about disaster preparation is inadequate (44%) with


practice (46.57%)

• Knowledge is significantly related with practice with higher


significance value (r value= 0.411)
