Japan Airlines Flight 123 was a scheduled domestic flight from Tokyo to Osaka on August 12, 1985 that suffered an in-flight structural failure and crashed into a mountainside, killing 520 of the 524 people on board. The Boeing 747 experienced an explosive decompression shortly after takeoff due to improper repairs to the rear pressure bulkhead that had cracked on a previous flight.
