Fuel Injection Pipe

This document discusses the design and fabrication of a copper fuel injection pipe. It explains that fuel injection pipes are used to inject pressurized fuel into diesel engines. The document discusses the need for fuel injection systems and introduces the project to fabricate a copper fuel injection pipe. It covers common materials used for fuel injection pipes like carbon steel and stainless steel. The document also discusses stress analysis, flow rates in pipes, advantages of fuel injection systems, and concludes that pressurized fuel injection improves engine performance.

DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF FUEL

INJECTION PIPE
 ABSTRACT:

 The aim of the project is to fabricate the copper fuel

injection pipe.

 The injection system refers to the process of

providing optimum fuel for an engine.

 Fuel injection is a system for admitting fuel into an

internal combustion engine.
 NEED OF THE PROJECT

 It has become the primary fuel delivery system

used in automotive engines, quantities of fuel
mixed with air for various operating conditions of
the engine.
INTRODUCTION:

 A fuel injection pipe is a special type of fuel injection

pipe fitted to diesel engines.

 The pipe having a capability of withstanding the inner

high pressure.

 This pipe is usually metallic in construction and can

either be a thin walled tube or convoluted hose.
Fuel injection steel pipe
Diesel fuel injection system
 Materials

 Materials that are used for manufacturing pipes include:

 Carbon steel.

 ASTM A252 Spec Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 Steel Pipe

 Low temperature service carbon steel

 Stainless steel

 Nonferrous metals, e.g. copper & brass

 Stress analysis

 Process piping and power piping are typically checked by

pipe stress engineers to verify that the routing, nozzle

loads, hangers, and supports are properly placed and

selected such that allowable pipe stress is not exceeded

under different loads such as sustained loads, operating

loads, pressure testing loads, etc.,

 Flow rate in pipe

 Eff= 70%. Rated speed,

 N = 2000 rpm

 Mass flow rate of diesel into the cylinder,

 ma = VN Eff/2

 = 0.001717x2000x0.7/2

 ma=0.02m3/s. Mass flow rate of fuel,

 mf = ma/(A/F ratio) = 0.02/15

 mf =0.001335 kg/sec
ADVANTAGES:
 Power output

 Fuel efficiency

 Ability to accommodate alternative fuels

 Reliability

 No leakage

 Less Maintenance cost

 Non corrosive
 CONCLUSION

 Fuel Injection pipe is the alternative method of supplying

the engine with its working charge of fuel.

 The pressurization of fuel leads to improved atomisation

which is considered to be good for performance.
