Proposal On The Transportation Planning: Problem Statement

The document proposes a transportation plan for the Jelapang district in Ipoh, Malaysia to reduce pollution from traffic by promoting cycling and pedestrian infrastructure. It identifies air pollution from vehicles as a problem and reviews literature showing traffic is a major source. The plan would create a cycling and pedestrian network with dedicated lanes, lighting, parking, and other facilities to provide alternatives to motor vehicles. The goal is to develop sustainable transportation and reduce pollution, traffic, and health impacts on the surrounding area.

PROPOSAL ON THE TRANSPORTATION PLANNING

PROBLEM STATEMENT
• Motor-vehicle traffic produce complex mixture of air pollutants
• Air pollutants has potential human-health effects

LITERATURE REVIEW
According to White et al., (2005), the mixture of traffic-related air pollution comprises components derived
from primary emissions include particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO),
and hydrocarbons (HC).

White et al., (2005) further stated that abrasion of surfaces and road dust itself is a complex mixture
comprises of coarse particles.
TRANSPORTATION GOAL
Propose a transportation planning towards less pollution basis

PURPOSE OF GOAL
Reduce pollution in a middle of city.

Area Jelapang district in Ipoh

Reason of chosen area Proposed area undergoing a mega project

called MAPS (theme park conctruction)
that will induce high traffic flow
PROPOSED AREA OF TRANSPORTATION PLANNING
ZONING OF THE PROPOSED AREA
CYCLING AND PEDESTRIAN NETWORK

LEGEND :
RED LINES – ZONE
BLACK LINES – CYCLIST AND PEDESTARIAN LANE
LANE FACILITIES

• Bicycle parking guarded with security camera.

• Wider lane consist of mixed mode for pedestrian and cyclist.
• Road markings, surfaced with symbols, arrows and chevrons.
• Shades or roofed lanes.
• Proper lighting is integrated along the lanes.
• Solar panel lighting.
IMPORTANCE OF THE GOAL

• Sustainable transportation planning

• Reduction in the motorized vehicles
• Reduces the pollution to the surrounding
• Platform for urban poor to travel
• Non-motorized transport improve traffic safety in cities
• Improvements and innovation in non-motorized transport policy
WHO WILL BE AFFECTED?

• Health of a person
• Publics are getting an alternative way to travel
• Highway user can have smooth journey with less congestion.

CHALLENGE SOLUTION

weather their destination

risk of accidents with providing a fully separated lane for cyclist and pedestrian
motorised vehicles
