A Presentation ON General Information About M.I.S: Submitted by Submitted To

This presentation provides an overview of management information systems (MIS). It defines the key terms - management refers to determining objectives, planning, organizing resources, and controlling and monitoring functions; information involves facts and data used for decision making; and a system comprises related components that interact to achieve common goals. It then discusses the types of information used in strategic, tactical, and operational decision making and defines systems as interrelated elements operating collectively toward a common purpose. Finally, it outlines different types of systems, including open, closed, deterministic, and probabilistic systems.

What is M.I.S ?
•Management:
 Determine objectives
 Make plan
 Organise resources
 Exercise control over function
 Monitor results
•Information:
sets of facts, figures & symbols processed for the current decision making
situation.
•System:
Set of related components, activities, process and human beings interacting together
so as to accomplish some common objectives.
What is Information?
• Information is a necessary and vital input in
any decision-making process in an
organization. However, it is not available in
ready form; rather it has to be generated from
data which acts as a raw material that needs
some processing.
Data Processing Information
Types of Information
(1) Strategic Information,
(2) Tactical Information, and
(3) Operational Information.

1. Strategic information
 Strategic information is required by the managers at
the strategic level of management for the
formulation of organisational strategies. This relates
to long term planning policies of the organisation as
a whole.
2. Tactical Information
 Information in this category is used to in
short-term planning and is of use at
management control level. For example, for
sales analyses and forecasts, production
resource requirement, annual financial
statement, etc. this type of information is
generally based on data arising from current
activities of the organisation.
3. Operational Information
 Operational Information applies to short
periods which may vary from an hour to a few
days. It is generally used by decision makers at
the operational level. It is often required for
taking immediate action.
What is system?
 System is set of inter related and interacting
elements which are operate collectively for
common goal.
 For example: human body is one type of
system, computer system, business enterprise.
Components of system
 interfaces
Sub-system
Boundary
Environment
Supra-system
Types of system
1) Open system
2) Close system

1. Open system:
 Interacts freely with his environment by
taking input and returning outputs to
environment.
 Change it self with environment.
2. Close system:
 does not interact with environment.
 Does not change with the change in
environment
 For example physical system.
3.Determinisstic system:
 it operate in a predictable manner
 interaction among the parts is known with
certainty.
 future action can be predicted without error
 for example: correct computer programe.
4.Probabilistic system:
 relates to probable behavior.
 future action cannot be predicted without
error.
 for example: inventory system
