 A mobile operating system is the operating system
that controls a mobile device or information
appliance – similar in principle to an operating
system such as Windows, Mac OS X or Linux.
 However, they are currently deal more with wireless
versions of broadband and local connectivity.

iOS is Apple's mobile version of the OS used in
Apple computers.
It has the largest library of content and
applications.

Overview:

 Android is a Linux-based open source operating system.

 Huge number of apps are available on “Google Play”

 It can mimic the look of other operating systems, such as Windows

Phone.

 Android has a large community of developers writing applications

("apps") that extend the functionality of devices, written primarily in a
customized version of the Java programming language

 The open and customizable nature of Android allows it to be

used on other electronics, including laptops and netbooks,

wristwatches, headphones, car CD and DVD players, mirrors,
portable media players and landlines.

 Blackberry OS is product of ”BlackBerry Limited”, formerly known
as Research In Motion Limited (RIM) since January 30, 2013. Its a
closed source software.
 Widely accepted as “Business Phone” @ corporate world for its
securely corporate email, contacts and calendar access along
with awesome BB Messenger. BBM connects the world with the
help of BBExchange Server.
 Over the air software loading (OTASL) service
 Blackberry 10 – the latest BB OS version launched on Jan 30,
2013.

 Source code was maintained by Accenture and
was originally developed by Symbian Ltd.
 The latest “Symbian OS” is an open-source
platform, owned by a non-profit organization
called “Symbian Foundation”.
 It was the most popular OS until the end of
2010, when it was overtaken by “Android”.
 Was used by many major mobile phone brands,
like Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, and
above all by Nokia Fig : Symbian UI by
 NOKIA contributed a lot for customization / NOKIA

improvement of Symbian OS until 2010. Then it

moved to “Windows Phone”.

respectively 30.2% and 23.7%. This data was taken as of Oct 2012.

 Scanning a hard copy to soft copy in any format like doc, pdf,
jpeg and emailing them is done using different app like
“Camscanner”

 Viber, Whatsapp are the apps helps to send message, files

etc over the internet in a single click.

Conclusion:

 Smartphone and Tablets powered by Mobile OS will continue drawing focus

in Global market and rule the IT and Telecom Industry year ahead.

 Traditional mobile definition has been completely revamped in past few

years with faster processor, rich HD display with LED technology. Cell
phones are now capable of browsing over internet wirelessly using Wi-Fi /,
3G or 4G technology.

 Apple iOS and Google Android – Rules the mobile operating system
followed by others.
