Brief Explanation About Banbury Mixer

The Banbury mixer is a type of cohesive mixer used to mix sticky solids like rubber and plastics. It works by having two rotors rotate relative to each other, compressing and shearing the material fed into the roll gap. As the material flows around the rotor, it is subjected to shear and friction, causing its temperature and viscosity to drop and improving mixing. The Banbury mixer provides high mixing capacity and efficiency while improving product quality, but can be difficult to use due to the high viscosity of cohesive solids. Its applications include mixing rubber and plastic compounds and processing rubber.

Brief explanation about

“BANBURY MIXER”
BANBURY MIXER
INRODUCTON TO BANBURY MIXER

 Banbury mixture is a type of cohesive mixer.

 It is used to mix the cohesive solids only.
 Cohesive in the sense very sticky and intermolecular
force of attraction is more. They are very difficult to
move.
 It is mainly used in rubber mixing and plastic refining.
 It is type of internal screw mixer.
Working principle
 When the Banbury mixer works, the two rotors rotates relative to
each other. And the material from the feeding port is damped into
the roll gap by the rotor compressions and shear.
 After passing through the roll gap the material is divided into two
parts.
 When it comes to the upper part of the roll gap between the front
and the back chamber wall and the rotor.
 During the flow around the rotor, the material is subjected to shear
and friction everywhere ,causing the temperature of the adhesive
to rise sharply and the viscosity to drop, which increases the wetting
property of the rubber on the surface of the compound.
 And makes the rubber fully contact with compound surface.

Functional parts of “Banbury mixer”
ADVANTAGES

 High mixing capacity.

 It takes short time and high product efficiency.
 It improves the product quality and working environment.
DISADVANTAGES

 It is very difficult to mix .

 because, the cohesive solids have high viscosity.
APPLICATIONS

• It mixes Compound rubber and plastic solids.

• Masticates crude rubber.
• Devulcanizes rubber scrap.
• Makes water dispersion and rubber solution.
